Oh my God, I'm turning in to Druff. Palm Beach Kennel Club Customer Service Trip Report

I posted this on the hate site because they have a PBKC thread there, so I'll just cross post what I wrote over there and give some back story. The Palm Beach Kennel Club (which is actually in West Palm Beach, big difference) charges $1 to get in to the poker room and they have a little booth outside with a guy who collects the dollar. Although sometimes it's empty, so I think they only have a guy there on days where there's racing. I think the main point is to collect $1 from people who are just going to watch the dogs race. This isn't totally unusual, as there are some other rooms in Florida that charge $1 to get in. It's just the Kennel Club mentality that a lot of these rooms have where you have to pay $2 for a soda while playing. But at least at the PBKC they only charge you the $1 if you don't have a players card. Which is silly, as players cards are free and all you have to do is show them your ID and they'll make you a players card. The PBKC is actually pretty good in how they run and treat their high stakes players. They don't have a bravo system or comp system anywhere in their poker room, so instead they comp all meals of people playing in the high limit section. I regularly comp $20 meals while I'm playing and they're happy to do it. Although once I got cut off for ordering too much food, but that's another story. Anyhow, here's what happened yesterday (as I told it on the hate site):
This was my latest experience at PBKC:
I am walking in to the poker room and the guy who mans the $1 collection booth stops me to collect the $1. I have a players card, but didn't have it on me. Usually when I forget to bring my players card I'll just ignore the guy and walk fast or I'll flash my hotel key or AAA card or my cock and it's yet to be a problem. I tell the guy that I have a players card but I don't have it on me. The guy says "Well, if you don't have it on you, then it's $1 to get in". Obviously this is ridiculous, I'm going to play 5/10 in the pit where I'll be paying $14/hr in rake. I only have hundreds on me and I'm not going to break a $100 bill to get $99 in change back. I tell him "Well, that's ridiculous, I have a players card I just don't have it on me today, I'm not going to pay $1 to get in". He comes out of his booth to show me some piece of paper that says 'you must have a players card to get in NO EXCEPTIONS!!!' and says "You see here where it says no exceptions?" I say "Okay, well you'll have to talk to somebody about it because I'm not going to pay $1 to get in" and I proceed to walk towards the poker room. He literally grabs my arm to prevent me from walking towards the poker room and says "You'll have to wait here for security". He goes back in his booth to call security and at this point I try to call Willie but I have trouble finding his number in my phone. The guy gets off the phone with security and tells me the head of security is going to give me a one time comp, but next time... and he keeps talking but I just walk away in to the poker room.

The guy was totally rude and out of line to me. I come down to play here every few months, but I'll just start going to The Isle instead if I'm going to be harassed over $1.
As soon as I posted this a guy commented that he had the exact same experience twice and as a result plays elsewhere now.

So grateful that we have real casinos to play at here in NJ.

If there is a situation where *I* am at least somewhat responsible and the penalty is $1, I pay the fucking dollar!

YOU didn't have your players card on you. It's the booth guy's job to collect a dollar from those without player cards. You wanted to be treated all special because you play high stakes poker there? Then remember your players card!

(Besides, if you want to protest, just STIFF the dealer on the first pot you win and tell him it's because of the PBKC's dumb policies.)

Thank god we almost immediately have a coherent reply!

Why does everyone always think the world owes them something? The rule is you have your card or you pay the $1, period! And now you want to hate on the man just trying to do his job? This guy would probably get in trouble had he not tried to get the $1 from you. The rule is there for a reason, whether you agree with it or not.
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

Why would I take it out on the dealers? It's not their problem. And I'm not going to give them a $100 bill to get $99 in change. And the guy absolutely would not have gotten in trouble for not collecting the dollar. It's a pretty open layout and it's easy to walk through without paying the dollar. I've done it probably a dozen times.

I don't want to get $99 in change. I don't like having a lot of small bills.

I will admit that I was purposefully rude to the guy, but only because he was first rude to me.

I said "if you want to protest" -- that is, make a statement of some sort.
It's a helluvalot better than refusing to come back to a casino over being charged a dollar (like everyone else who didn't have their players card!).

One form of protest hurts the house whose policy it is. The other hurts an individual dealer. And there's plenty of rooms to chose from.

Why? If I plan on spending $2,000 at a strip club should I expect them to waive the cover because I plan on spending lots of money here? How do they know what he's going to play, or if he's gonig to play at all? Pay the $1, you left your card it's your fault. For all you know this guy got chewed out for 30 minutes earlier for letting this happen the day before.

And if you did what i said above I'm sure he would have said, "go ahead, just remember your card next time." In that regard (handling the situation poorly) you are a bit like Druff

I thought this was going to be a customer service brag post,
I just pulled a druff and got a month and a half of service for free from ATT UVerse.

    Short:
    signed up 5-7-2012
problems w/equipment almost daily, vcr doesn't record right mostly,
sent 2 consoles back to ATT
on phone w/India endlessly (Their only answer is re-set it, wait for like 15 minutes to see if it all came back, if that doesn't work send the equipment back, must be a great job)

Local tech guy comes out 6-21-2012 and fixes or syncs up everything, not real sure, but haven't had one problem since.
All the equipment is, and has been fine.

Call up, I'm like we should be billed starting 6-21, and after a few back and forth's, got a supervisor to waive every cent.

That's a weird way to think of it. It's like saying "Ive gone 80-in-a-60 a dozen times on this road, but this time the cop has the audacity to give me a ticket."

But overall I agree, that dollar policy is fucking retarded.

You are going to toke, right?

Just tell the guy you'll bring him back a $1 chip when you cash in. grabbing your arm does seem way out of line though.

I would also look at it from his perspective. They were prob slack about it before but the boss told him you better start collecting that dollar if they don't have a card.

Some minor modifications to that image and its totally The Iceman.
When faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself "What would Micon do?", then do the opposite.

PFA Rookie of the Year 2012: The Templar (unknown)
    2013: Jasep $5000+
    2015: Micon's gofundme legal defense $3k begging for 100k:

Unless that $1 taker loses his job, home, and wife you really can't compete with a Druff smackdown.

There was no shot the guy was letting me in the building without giving him $1. I don't know if they accept chips, but if they do I will give a $1k pumpkin in the future.

Lol, fair enough. I'm only one third of the way through Druff's training course.
