Canada's Version of Removing Statues - Sir John A Macdonald, our first Prime Minister

I'm sorry but they were different times then. White men did treat natives poorly, which is why we give back land, resources, etc in an effort to help them. But at the same time he was our first Prime Minister, he is a part of our history and IMO schools, highways, etc can still be named after him.

Somewhat similar to the debate in the US. How can we preserve history despite great men/women committing acts that are absolutely horrendous in 2017?

Treason was a crime in 1860, too. Robert E Lee did nothing to deserve the description "great man".

That is a major difference, however if Charlottesville didn't happen, I'm not sure if it would have been brought up in Canada.

I'm perfectly fine with schools/roads/etc being named after Macdonald. You don't conquer land + setup a country without committing atrocities.

This was happening in Halifax ages before Charlotesville re: Edward Cornwallis statue and other things named after him. Major bullshit.
