A complete solar eclipse is happening over parts of the US on August 21, 2017.

Certain cities will be 100% in the dark for the short time it occurs (about 2.5 minutes).

Among the lucky cities is St. Joseph, MO, where I believe jsearles lives (or lived recently).

jsearles, are you going to get off your fat ass and watch this?

I am going to be taking a flight which will allow me to view it from the air -- and to guarantee to see it happen without clouds obscuring the situation. It will take many hours for me to do this (since it's nowhere near the southwest US), but it's a unique event, and won't happen again until 2045.

Also, this is the first time the event has been confined to just the US since the 1200s -- over 500 years before the US existed as a country.

I will be in Jackson Hole leading up to this then making my way to another location to witness the totality of it when it actually occurs. There are rooms that normally go for $150 a night that are going for $1000+ during this time frame

I love canada, but they fucking suck dick sometimes.

For instance.......I have to call ahead and let them know I want to enter the country. why? Because I've been convicted of a misdemeanor drug offense. I can own a gun, i can vote, i can do everything any other US Citizen can do, only I can't cross the border in to canada on a whim like everyone else. And it's the same for everyone else in my situation.

You think your government would be in tune with how strict our drug laws are here regarding pot, and that there are millions of people who are in my situation, some just for a tiny bag of weed.

These eclipses are like scams, this is the 1st one to do this in 600 years but then watch, about 50 of these will pop up over the next year

I had to cancel a huge meeting because half of the people at my organization are travelling days in advance to various parts of Oregon to witness it.

Highways are expected to be backed up for several hours. No thanks.
