Well no one was here, pretty obvious and I went and played.
Pictures will come in a couple days when I go back to china and actually can use my iphone for something other than a camera.
First, I went to Walkerhill where they hold the APPT Seoul. The tables were really nice and there were about 4 total that they had games running on and another 2 off to the side that I think were reserved for when they had tournaments. The seats felt great, but the felt on the tables was awful. It was in great condition, but it wasn't designed for cards to properly slide or lift easily.
I sat down at a 1000/2000 KRW (about 1/2) with about 300000 KRW. I sat and watched some hands first before actually playing to see how these guys play.
I had heard that these guys are insane when it comes to over valuing hands and that they generally had no care or worry about the money they put in. After about a half hour I stacked one guy for 100000 KRW when I flopped a straight and he flopped nothing. We got it all in on the turn when he turned top top with AK.
I met a couple American locals that play these games, and they make bank. The one guy is an english teacher and only makes about 3000 USD a month and he said with poker he makes about 12000 USD a month the way these guys throw away money. When I was up for a cigarette these guys were gracious enough to fill me in on all the players at the table and how they played. You know like, this guy doesn't bluff, this guy won't fold any pair, this guy over bets AK, AQ, and so on.
One thing I noticed, these games are not for the faint of heart. It's a 1/2 game but often times there's about 200 in the pot before the flop. People will often raise to 20-25 in the 1/2 game with either nothing, or if they're a "little" better with AK, AQ, etc. Position was absolutely key in this game and if you are a tight player you really shouldn't bother playing because the game will be -EV. You'll get pushed out of pots with the best hand most times, but you can't really think about it.
After about 7 hours of play at Walker Hill I cashed out 600000 KRW and I said this is fine and left.
Last night I went to Seven Luck Casino at the Co-Ex and I heard this is where the action is really crazy. They only offer a 2/5 game and when I got there they were just starting one up. I bought in for 500000 KRW and the fun began. I sat next to another 2 foreigners, unfortunately to my left. These guys were also nice enough to fill me in on what the other players were like, which instantly got me to 1000000 KRW. I stayed around that point for a while. I went up and down up and down. Usually had to make some sick call downs with pocket pair with 1 or 2 over pair on the boards because it was obvious they were chasing and they were not going to lay down even if I raised.
The two foreigners eventually left, one stacked about 2000000 KRW and the other busted when he got 2 outed on the river.
Then, and I'll never forget this game, shit got real crazy. Two Japanese online professions, both were supernova, sat down at the table with 2000000 KRW each and kept bugging to go to 5/10. I had about 1500000 KRW at this point and I kept saying no, I didn't feel comfortable. Their one buddy in their "crew" is the Japanese guy that just took down the 5K PLO WSOP event, and both were just killing time until the main event of the WSOP. So I knew these guys were stacked. Another guy sat down at the table with 2000000 KRW, quickly stacked it off, put another 1000000 KRW and then quickly ran it up to about 8000000 KRW.
This guy was such an action junkie. I remember one hand the guy to my left raises, and he re-raised, a guy in late position smooth called and then the guy to my left called. The flop came 234. There was a check, bet about 300000, re-raise to about 1000000, call, and call. Turn came 3. The guy to my left thinks for about a minute and then pushes about 1000000 KRW into the pot for an all in. Action Junkie instant calls. The other guy tanked for about 5 minutes before showing 65ss and folding. He was extremely pissed.
Both players decided to expose their hands and the guy that was all in had JJ and the guy who insta called was KK. This was so sick. The guy with KK I understood his reasoning, he knew if he insta called the other guy (who he knew) would fold, but it's so sick to insta call with that hand in on that board.
Eventually he started blind raising to about 200, and he would chunk off a lot of money for no good reason. I'd ask him if he was on an open ended straight draw when I flopped something good or had even an over pair and he'd just giggle if he did. It was so obvious what he had.
Eventually, I hit 6000000 KRW and then took a bad beat down to 4500000 and said adios and took off. This session was about 13 hours long and it was 5am by the time I left.
Some additional notes: The dealers are so-so at both locations.
As I said do not play these games if you're tight.
Everyone speaks excellent english for the most part and the ones that don't, people translate for.
Be prepared to call light, you'll usually end up good.
Be talkative, these people give away crazy information, and the Americans at the tables are very much willing to give you information on the other players.
