I always laugh when people on the left write, "But snopes verified this wasn't true!" as a way to bolster their political argument.

Alt.gambling and rec.gambling are separate things. Rec.gambling.poker used to be a thing that co-existed with 4. It used to be bigger, but after spam and shitposting killed it, 4 took the throne. "Original" RGP was without any moderation and mostly predates the poker boom.

Sklansky used to post in RGP, but that's pretty much the only connection.

There was tons of good shit on that newsgroup. I looked back a few posts there maybe a year ago so it's def mirrored. Gary Carson had some gems, Michael Hall (Abdul Jalib) was great with LHE and for LO8 there was Badger. And then there was prolly 20 odd less prolific posters that i can't remember of the top of my head.
