The situation: 15-year-old girl stole candy from Winco (a supermarket in Washington), and two male "Loss Prevention" employees chased her outside and ended up wrestling with her on the ground.
In the process, the girl skinned her knee.
She did seem to be trying to escape, and would not sit still. However, the employees do seem a bit too rough, needlessly moving her to different places, rather than just holding her where she is.
Who was legally in the right here?
Who was morally in the right?
I don't know Washington law, but I believe that security agents for a business do have the right to hold someone who has stolen from them, until police arrive, and can use reasonable force to do so.
There is no question that the girl stole the candy. She admitted this in the video.
