Resisted temptation to tilt over that cooler hand. Played relatively few hands at new table, won a bit. Finished Day 1 with 99400. #pfa73

Spun my wheels, almost exactly even in final 6 hours of play. Will still return with above average chips on Tuesday at 11am. #pfa73

Won a very high % of pots played, including many I missed. Failed to get action mostly on the many hands I hit. Late cooler hurt. #pfa73

I've made Day 2 in 8 of the past 9 years. Haven't seen Day 3 since 2013. Hopefully that changes on Tuesday. #pfa73

One of the most tilting thing in tournaments is when they break your table and you lose a big pot on the very final hand. You ask yourself, "Why couldn't this table break have happened seconds earlier?"

I had the brutal spot of holding AcKh on a AsKcJc6c board. Obviously river bricked with Jd, which in fact made the situation worse (now I lose to any jack, also). I actually got out of it cheaper than it could have been. I actually check/called the turn because I had a strong feeling dude had the flush, and was shoving if I bet into him (he had kind of the exact stack size he'd likely shove, and yet he had too many chips for me to WANT a shove.) You read that right. I actually check/called the turn with top 2 pair and the nut flush draw, simply because he called a single flop bet. Just had a strong read that he had the flush.

Since I suddenly checked the turn, he incorrectly sensed weakness, and made two smallish bets (compared to pot size) on turn/river in order to get me to call. Almost folded the river, but couldn't bring myself to. He showed 4c5c. It was one of only two hands all day where I called the river and lost.

Kind of a weird day. I doubled my stack in the first 4 hours, mostly by getting run over by the deck, yet getting little action. I was also winning plenty of pots where I totally missed. I also kept losses to a minimum in 2 other cooler spots early on.

So basically I was batting extremely high with bluff bets (honestly I did great figuring out when to fire postflop and when to give up), did well avoiding big losses in coolers, but received little action when I was hitting my hands (I got tons of sets, but they were all small-medium pots).

Both tables I played at had a fair number of amateurs, and neither had any pros who were getting out of line. Somehow I got Bonomo for the 4th freaking Day 1 of this WSOP, which is amazing because this field was so big, and because I think we only had like 5-6 events in common. He busted early, partially due to a huge cooler where he had the open ended straight flush draw on the turn, check-raise-shoved, and ran into top set of aces (not mine), then missed.

Nothing bad to say about Bonomo at the WSOP this year, though. He was very polite to everyone, including me.

I spun my wheels in the final 3 levels (6 hours). I had about 101k at the 2nd break, and I finished with 99k. Despite my inability to chimp up after the hot start, at least I didn't chimp down, and I finished with a stack which will go into Day 2 as moderately above average.

I don't believe I won more than 20k in any single pot, and even 10k-15k win pots were few and far between. I was never all in, and I never called an all in.

Here's to hoping I get a good Day 2 draw, as honestly that factor is huge in an event like this (much bigger than it is in other events).

I have made Day 2 in 8 of the past 9 years, but have not seen a Day 3 since 2013 (at which point I had made four Day 3s in a row).

    Regarding field size:

A staggering 72.45% of Day 1A (Saturday) players survived. 576 out of the 795 players made it.

It is yet unknown how many survived Day 1B (Sunday), but 2164 people entered, which is high for Day 1B.

Together, flights A and B had almost 3000 entrants.

Given that flight C often breaks 4,000 entrants (last year it was 4240), this might end up being the second biggest Main Event ever, behind 2006.

The 2010 Main (the current second in attendance) had 7319 players. That's the one where I finished 88th. This year might beat 2010. It will be close.

If the 72.45% survival rate stays constant, the average stack will be just 69k, which will leave me more above average than I originally thought.

They just posted the seating assignments.

    Todd Witteles LAS VEGAS, NV, US 99,400 Amazon / 157 / 1
    Gregoire Boissenot Boulogne Billiancourt, , FR 38,900 Amazon / 157 / 2
    Chun Yam GB 36,300 Amazon / 157 / 3
    Derek Wolters CHANDLER, AZ, US 23,100 Amazon / 157 / 4
    Bryn Kenney LONG BEACH, NY, US 114,000 Amazon / 157 / 5
    Matthew Silberzweig ELMONT, NY, US 78,800 Amazon / 157 / 6
    Rajagopal Seshasankaran WOODINVILLE, WA, US 22,000 Amazon / 157 / 7
    Matthew Shafman WEST ORANGE, NJ, US 71,700 Amazon / 157 / 8
    Christopher Leslie Portland, OR, US 165,900 Amazon / 157 / 9

Might have my hands a bit full with Bryn Kenney, a tough, aggro tournament player, who has slight position on me (though we're mostly neutral). He is 16th all time in cashing tournaments, with over $17 million in cashes (mostly from playing High Roller events).

Otherwise, from what I can see, this isn't a bad draw, as I have position on the biggest stack, and I'm 3rd stacked at this table, with 5 of the other 6 people being short stacks.

I actually had Kenney once before (I think 2013) on WSOP Main Day 2.

    1643 of 2164 (75.92%) survived Day 1B.

This means 2219 of 2959 players survived Days 1A and 1B (74.99%), making the average stack for Day 2AB just 66,800.

I am tied for 419th out of the 2219.

    Gregoire Boissenot Boulogne Billiancourt, , FR 38,900 Amazon / 157 / 2
Middle aged French guy. Has one cash in past two years, but has cashed going back to 2010 in Europe. Probably knows what he is doing but isn't super tough. Fairly low stack.

    Chun Yam GB 36,300 Amazon / 157 / 3
Hong Kong player. 6 cashes this year. Probably pretty good, though his stack is fairly low.

    Derek Wolters CHANDLER, AZ, US 23,100 Amazon / 157 / 4
Young pro. I probably saw him in the $888 cashout line, as he cashed 359th while I cashed 356th. Very short stacked.

    Bryn Kenney LONG BEACH, NY, US 114,000 Amazon / 157 / 5
As mentioned in the previous post, very tough opponent, plays super high roller events.

    Matthew Silberzweig ELMONT, NY, US 78,800 Amazon / 157 / 6
Middle aged guy who cashed in the Main last year. Has various cashes going back 7 years. I'm guessing he is a decent recreational player.

    Rajagopal Seshasankaran WOODINVILLE, WA, US 22,000 Amazon / 157 / 7
Perhaps he satellited in? Has never cashed in an event with a buyin above $750. I'm guessing he is a decent recreational player. Very short stacked.

    Matthew Shafman WEST ORANGE, NJ, US 71,700 Amazon / 157 / 8
Young guy, probably an AC area pro. Six cashes this year in the WSOP. Will probably be tough.

    Christopher Leslie Portland, OR, US 165,900 Amazon / 157 / 9
Biggest stack at the table, but I can't find much on him. Two cashes this year, but no other live cashes prior to the 2017 WSOP. I'm guessing he's a recreational player.

Overall, this isn't a very good table draw, though some of the short stacks will likely bust and be replaced fairly quickly.

It's also worth noting that there are 184 tables, and I am table 157. If they are breaking from high to low, then this table will be broken after not too long.
