Death Valley was 127 degrees yesterday

    http://www.latimes.com/local/califor...620-story.html

Many people went to Death Valley for the novelty of experiencing such high temperatures.

The highest temperature ever recorded on earth was 134 in Death Valley, but this was over 100 years ago, and there is some doubt.

The highest "modern" temperature recorded on earth was 129, also in Death Valley.

A few years ago, someone posted a video of frying eggs on the ground of Death Valley in the summer, causing lots of people showing up with eggs to do the same, making huge messes for rangers to clean up.

The ground in Death Valley can reach 200 degrees.

    Laughlin was 122 yesterday.

Las Vegas was 116. For some reason, Las Vegas has never exceeded 117 degrees.

I chose not to drive to LA during the daylight hours, fearing a breakdown leaving me in the 120 degree heat in an area where help would take awhile to arrive.

I grew up in Tampa where it's in the 90s every single day in the summer (and even spring and fall). Despite this, the record high temperature is only 99°

I grew up in the desert between Vegas and LA and that heat is killer. I remember being in elementary school having classes in desert survival in case we got stuck/lost in the desert outside of town

The heat is deadly. Father & son from Texas just died in Southern New Mexico in the Carlsbad Cavern National Park. They went hiking in the 100+ degree weather and didn't make it back. It just so happens I just got back from Carlsbad a few days ago and it was burning. Just breathing the super heated air messed me up for days. If you're going into the desert, brings plenty of water, which is probably more than you think you need.

Some people think I am too picky regarding weather and places I travel, but I really think it's stupid to plan vacations to hot places in the summer or cold places in the winter (unless that's the purpose, such as going skiing).
