Young meth head chick approached me at gas station

The Chevron on the corner of Arville and Flamingo in Vegas (right down the street from the Rio) seems to be a common place for panhandlers.

I was there late last night, and I was approached by a young white woman (I'd say around 21) who was seemingly walking around aimlessly before I pulled up.

She gave me the usual, "My car is out of gas, and I can't get home, can I have a little money so I can get there?" story.

She pointed out the car which was hers, which was on the other side of the gas station.

I asked her, "Where is home?"

She replied very quickly, "The Budget Suites on Boulder Highway", which is likely true. Nobody would pretend to live at the Budget Suites.

And the place does actually exist: https://www.yelp.com/biz/budget-suit...rica-las-vegas

Anyway, this girl definitely had the "meth head" look to her, complete with the telltale bad complexion and skinny, awkward body.

I could tell that she was once pretty, perhaps as recently as a year ago. Like, she wasn't completely destroyed yet, but I could see she was on her way.

I actually took pity on her and was willing to contribute a few $ toward actual gas for her to get home, if by some fluke this typical scam story was actually true.

I was just about to ask her to walk me to her car and show me the empty gas gauge, planning to then walk to the cashier, put a few dollars into that pump, and pump the gas into her car mysef (so she can't go get a refund).

I knew this was almost surely a scam, but wanted the entertainment of seeing her squirm trying to satisfy my requirements.

However, I was interrupted by the fact that the pumps at this station are awful, and I couldn't get mine started. I told her to hang on, as I pulled back to another pump. Nope, that one was screwed up, too.

While this was going on, she glanced over and noticed that "her" car was pulling out of its pump spot and driving away. Oops! So she said, "Umm... I'll let you get our gas pumped and then I'll come back to you in a few minutes", and quickly scampered away.

She completely lied about even having a car, going as far to point out another person's car at a pump as being hers! LOL

I watched where she went, and saw her walk to the side of the gas station, where two other young people were hanging out. So I guess they were out of meth for the night and she told them she would round up some cash at the gas station, but had to abort when her cover story drove away.

I have been hit with various forms of this scam many times, but it seems especially common in Nevada.

A few years ago, in Primm (the stateline area), a middle-aged Mexican woman who actually DID have a car (I saw her get out of it) approached me with that same, "I'm stranded, I need gas" story.

I asked where she was from, and she said "Las Vegas".

I then asked her, "If you're from Vegas and have no money for gas, why did you drive 40 miles into open desert, with no destination, if you had very little gas?"

(There is basically nothing for like 200 miles if you drive from Vegas toward LA.)

She got very flustered and didn't know how to answer, eventually coming up with a confusing story which didn't add up at all. She eventually settled on a story that she had just come back from LA and fell short of making it back, but it already contradicted another story she initially told. I said to her that this wasn't adding up, and I couldn't help her. She quickly walked away, jumped in the vehicle, and it drove off.

Anyway, last night the final joke was on me, as the multiple attempts to get the pumps working triggered a credit card fraud alert, and it took 6 calls to my bank to get the card reactivated.

Gas station hustle is one of the oldest tricks in the books.

Massive amount of traffic with people spending money.

The good ones will have the empty gas can with them so they don't need to lie about the car. And dumbasses will give them that crack money all day long, a dollar at a time.

These motherfuckers get within 30 feet of me I tell them real quick what the deal is, go suck some dick if you need money it aint coming from me.

I am not sure if it is the heat or what but you will see meth heads on the strip and you cant believe some of them are still standing. Vegas produces some "walking dead" looking type meth heads.

When I worked in the ghetto some of them even had props. Lil plastic gas can, some fake ass keys, and would walk around the neighborhood saying they ran out of gas down the street

Btw, how much does meth cost these days and how much does a meth head need to get through a typical day? Also, same question for crack cocaine. just curious

At Harrah's Rincon, at least as of 2015, there was a "meth crowd" which hung out by the slot machines and panhandled there.

A chick around 40 with several missing teeth and all the obvious meth signs approached me while I was playing video poker, and engaged me in conversation. I was bored and let her keep talking, especially because she wasn't asking for money. I will give her credit for being polite and telling me that she will leave if she's bothering me (probably because she didn't want me calling security!)

So she sat with me playing for awhile, and we talked. She told me about her ex-husband losing everything to the Rincon, and how they have to sell their house as part of the ongoing divorce. She also claimed he had a drug problem, pointing out that she didn't have such a problem, aside from being a "pill head".

While she was sitting with me, some Indian dude approached her, and she openly talked about going back to his room at Pala (a nearby casino/hotel) and getting the drugs. He got really worried and told her not to say that around other people, but she responded, "No, it's okay. This is Todd. He's cool, he won't say anything."

Then when he walked away, she said that she has a few people she sells drugs to, and he's one of them. However, it was obvious from listening to them that SHE was "buying" the drugs, and her "payment" was going to be sex or a blow job. This especially seemed true because she seemed like a broke drug addict, and he looked normal.

I noticed that there was a group of these people who all knew each other, and eventually she went to hang out with them when she was done watching me. Oddly, one of the people in that group was a very pretty blonde girl around 25-30 who didn't look like a druggie at all, but I bet by now she looks tore up.

Anyway, as I finished my session and walked away, she called out to me.

"Hey Tom! Can I have $20?"

Suddenly I became "Tom", even though she called me "Todd" to that Indian guy earlier.

I said, "Sorry, I don't have any $20s", and quickly walked away.

True story, a few years ago I was at a rest stop on the New Jersey Turnpike and was approached by a very normal looking guy. He said he got into an argument with his girlfriend and she drove off with his phone and wallet in the car. He was trying to scrape up enough cash to get a cab home and he estimated it was going to be $100 and he only had $40 in his pocket which he showed me. I knew it was probably bullshit, but he definitely was not on drugs and looked normal, it actually COULD have happened. So I had $107 and was definitely not giving him a $20, but I did give him $7 and told him he could probably get to his goal within a hour. I drove off and forgot about it.

A week later I stopped at a different rest stop going the opposite direction on the Jersey Turnpike in the same vicinity as the last one I sopped at. I walked back to my car and the SAME guy came up and gave me the SAME story he did last week. I was fucking pissed and told him he scammed me last week and I was going in to report him. He literally sprinted to a car with some chick in it, and they sped off, literally it was 20 seconds, I got a glimpse of the car and it was a rusted out Taurus.

I went inside and there was a Security Officer there and told him, and he promptly got on his walkie talkie and said "They're back again". He explained to me it was a husband and wife team that has been warned repeatedly not to come back. Apparently they are both addicts, which was totally surprising because he looked completely normal. The officer said the reason he wears long sleeve shirts in the middle of summer was to cover up his needle marks.

The fact of the matter is she's in a terrible position, down and out on her luck and could really use a couple bucks.

Not a scam, she's broke and told a white lie to get a couple bucks. Next time give maybe give her a couple bucks, don't worry she probably gets her drugs by other means.

Not giving anyone a couple of bucks for alcohol or drugs. That's only hurting them and lightening my wallet. Lose-lose.

On my one (and still only) trip to Reno, the beggars were all over. Playing and staying at the Peppermill, dicking around on machines on the floor late night....the bums were just waiting by the ticket redemption machines....no security in sight. Never had that happen inside a Vegas casino.

I give money but only those actually doing something on a street corner. Such as playing an instrument, even if its banging plastic buckets. I'll even throw a buck at the guy standing out at a busy intersection with a sign, because that is tough work, standing in the heat 8 hours a day sucking exhaust fumes. But I will never give anyone random approaching me with a story ever again, its always a scam.

The worst place for Beggars I have ever seen, and it is not even close was downtown Portland. Everyone told me when I went to Portland about how great the food truck experience was. What they did not tell you was how many beggars there were hassling you at every block.

I could not get over the age of the beggars in Portland. The average age was like 19. It's one thing to see people mailing it in when they get into their 30s. But these kids just forfeited life before they even got started.

Funny thing is, like 6 years ago I actually had this happen to me where I was out of gas with no money, about 30 miles away from my apartment in Orlando. I had made Day 2 of some tournament in Daytona where I had like 3 big blinds left because I almost busted the last hand of Day 1. So I went to Daytona for Day 2. Shipped it in the first hand and got knocked out. Then I realized I forgot to bring money to play cash afterwards so I just left. About halfway home I realized I had almost no gas and no chance I could make it home so I pulled into a gas station. I had no cash and no credit/debit cards on me. I had ID so I could've gone to the bank to withdraw money, except it was a Sunday.

So what do I do? I know people in Daytona and I know people in Orlando. But I'm in the middle of nowhere (Titusville, Fl) where nobody can easily bring me money. I considered telling somebody at the gas station what happened but I knew it was such a common scam that I would've felt embarrassed if they didn't believe me. Looking back I'm sure it would've worked well because I was an innocent Justin Bieber looking 19 y/o. I called my roommate to see if he could come but he was still sleeping because it was only 1pm (lol). I texted a 5/10 reg in Daytona and offered them $100 if they could come and bring me $10, but they declined. I finally got ahold of my friend who lives in nearby Satellite Beach, but they were out of town. But they suggested sending money through Western Union (which never crossed my mind). I think it cost them $20 to send me $10, but I was finally able to get out of god-foresaken Titusville after being stuck there for two hours
