Haralabos Voulgaris: WSOP RFID cards at 111k FT were marked

Looks af it it was more of a manufacturers error...as supposed to malfeasance by any of the players at the table...but still a potential major fail....esp considering most pros (and dealers I came across) have complained about the cards this whole wsop

Am I the only one who doesn't believe Bob won all that money betting on NBA? I believe he won it all booking action.

    Does it really matter?

The guy definitely is an original thinker and spots opportunity --> and even more importantly has known when to get out. The man knows his limitations. He kept his money. He backed off from poker's increasing difficulty.

He has trimmed back on NBA as 3 pointers increased variance.

He was exploiting early Pinnacle numbers back in the day.

Most importantly he can string more than 2 sentences together. The guy is fascinating to listen to. God. I feel I have learned more about gambling listening to him than anyone else. I posted some MIT conference videos where he was one of the guest speakers along with Cantor gaming. Harolobob was contentious and brilliant.

He lives in Monaco which is a dream of mine I will never realize.

I also think he made his money through owning sportsbooks, and any money he made in NBA was secondary.

He once stated that a lot of the money he made was from exploiting halftime lines -- which at one point were shockingly just half the game total (what?!)

I wish I knew that at the time, because I would have exploited those, too.

Anyway, I'm guessing it's not just the 3-pointer's rise which has chased Haralabob out of the NBA. I think the books are too sophisticated now, and he can't beat them.

I'm not taking anything away from him, but at the same time, I'm not sure if he's the sportsbetting deity that many have hailed him to be.

He confronted Cantor Gaming about not taking his action. Cantor always claimed they would take any bet of any size from anyone. He called bullshit. Why not him?

He has described his experience using runners etc. pain in the ass.

He struck me as semi retired at this point

Anyone with any Harolobob videos - please post

ESPN the magazine had a large article where he discussed the vegas not adjusting NBA lines at half time thing. It was cool, one of the better article ever in that POS

The limits back in those days for totals, especially for 2nd half totals makes it virtually impossible to win millions and millions. I believe he made his loot booking and "washed" it by telling Uncle Sam he won it. Just my hunch. Don't blame him one bit if that was the case.

I think I first found this vid after someone mentioned it before on this forum, probably you, San.

This is from the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, 2013. Panel includes Bob, Matthew Holt (the Cantor guy referenced in sanlmar's post), & Chad Millman (I think).

also, anytime Bob is on Bill Simmons podcast, those are all worth listening to. Of course, I'm biased, I've loved pretty much everything he's ever wrote or said since Big Poker Sundays.

Half time lines were a gold mine for a few guys back in the day.

I remember him saying for second half he crushed Utah games when they had a lead under Jerry Sloan the team slowed the pace of the game down so much and books didn't adjust to it.

What I wonder is how he made his initial 100k, 1 million,etc... ?

Did he just have money from some place to start off with or get super lucky not to go broke risking more of his net worth then he should?

Their always has been a few mysteries in his story of coming up that would be interesting to know.

The PPH market is huge and you can definitely win millions in a season betting 1st halfs and 2nd halfs just in the US alone. Add the ROTW and you can really win a big #.

I do agree that PPH is huge. One time, I had a guy offering 10k limits for half time bets on a regional college basketball game. The max in all of vegas was maybe 1k or 2k. Lot of times you get a rookie taking a shot as a PPH who has no clue what they are doing.

True, but they will still pay a small number. Most originators are going to have autobettors so servicing a small PPH account is no different than betting one for larger. Nothing wrong with beating a guy out of 4 or 5k if they pay. It adds up if you have an army of people bringing you PPH accounts, which happens if you prove yourself a winner over time.
