After briefly getting the chip lead in the 10k Limit Holdem in the 7th hour, I struggled going forward to finish w/ 54k. Return 2pm. #pfa38
Blah.
Disappointing final 3 1/2 levels.
Briefly the chip leader during level 7 (at about 164k), and then could barely win a hand after that.
I was almost crippled as the day ended, down to a paltry 25k. However, the 2nd-to-last hand was aces (my first of the day), and fortunately JC Tran had 88. So we got it all in pre, the board ran out, and I doubled to 54k.
Two annoying pots could have gotten me back to a respectable stack. One involved 76hh in the SB. Someone raised in middle position, Bonomo 3-bet in late position, and I considered calling the 2.5 cold (because 76hh plays extremely well against raising hands in limit holdem), but I dumped it because I didn't have a lot of chips to do draws. Well, lo and behold the flop comes with an open ended straight and flush draw for me, and I would have hit the nut straight on the turn, while Bonomo ended up winning the hand with 2 pair. So that would've been a monster.
Also, I had 88 in a 4-bet, 4-way preflop pot, only to see the awful flop of AQ3, so I pitched it for one bet on the flop. I was relieved when the turn was a K, but the river was that elusive 8, and AK took the pot down. Where was that damn 8 on the flop??? But obviously only a complete fish would have chased down that 8, and honestly, I felt the guy with AK had either AA, KK, QQ, or AK, so an AQ3 board could have left me drawing dead, hence not wanting to even take one off in position.
I got a good table draw, but a lousy position. There were two guys on my left who cold-called constantly, so they always had position on me.
The next table over was horrendous -- featuring Brock Parker, Mike Schneider, Anh Van Nguyen ("Vandiesel"), David ODB Baker, Terrence Chan, and Ian Johns.
Here's my table draw for Day 2:
Brasilia 702 1 Michael O'Grady Australia 112,000
Brasilia 702 2 Ryan Turner United States 54,000
Brasilia 702 3 Todd Witteles United States 54,000
Brasilia 702 4 Terrence Chan Canada 80,500
Brasilia 702 5 Mark Klecan Canada 211,000
Brasilia 702 6 Eric Froehlich United States 107,000
Brasilia 702 7 Shaun Deeb United States 144,500
Brasilia 702 8 Kevin Song United States 246,500
Oddly, the guy to my right (Ryan Turner, who I don't know) has the identical chip count to me.
I only know Terrence Chan, Eric Froehlich, Shaun Deeb, and Kevin Song. With the exception of Deeb, all of them are very good limit holdem players, though Deeb may not be, as I am not sure how good he is at limit holdem. I doubt he's a fish, though.
41 out of the 120 players remain.
Average stack is 146k, so I have some work to do and need to get some luck to make the final 18.
You can go to the Flying Stupidity forum and read the thread about Howard Lederer. Very interesting conversation.
