I never read the book and I'd probably watch Ian McShane taking a dump if it were a TV show, so take that for what it's worth. I'm not sure it goes past 3 seasons but when ep 10 was over I was like ok when is the next ep on...fuck...next season whenever that is.

yeah i was pretty gung ho about season 2 until the director + gillian anderson bounced, i think thats the core of my nervousness.

They handle her exit like Three's Company replacing Chrissy or The Dukes of Hazzard replacing Bo and Luke with their long lost cousins. It's kind of funny actually.
The book is HOF.
I watched the first season and it was decent, until I realized they were going to STREEEETCH the book into unknown numbers of TV seasons. GOT was 5+ books- fine. Multiple seasons still had to abridge some of the content.
But the Hobbit was one thin book, and the 4(?) movies were boooooring. I fell asleep in the first one and didn't come back.
American Gods may fall somewhere in between, but one book=one season. Starz subscription donkdown.

Season 1 was a solid A.
Season 2 was ... a B-.
The effects budget was an absolute embarrassment, losing Gillian Anderson and (apparently) Chenoweth reaalllllly tipped the scales against, and on way too many occasions I found myself trying to make sense of something and failing, including the entire final episode.
Musical numbers.. racial politics... ehn... it just felt unbalanced.
