Old gods vs new gods. Best thing out there at the moment.

Just finished first episode. I'm into it.
Am I the only one who thought the book was pretty meh?
God-power is based on how many people believe in you. Ok. But why is it per continent? And why isn't Jesus a 900 foot tall juggernaut? IIRC, the book completely ignores all of the major religions.
My philosophical complaint is that the devotion people give to deities is completely different from the devotion I show to my city or my TV. I actually get something in return from those things.

Havent read the book honestly. Its on my list but I've got Pillars of the Earth staring at me on my table so its going to be a while.

Yea it's great (tv-show). It started off strong and somehow it's gotten better.
Regarding the book i would say Gaiman needs editing from someone he respects. It usually means collaborations of some kind and it's not usually happening in book format.
notepad
1. They don't believe in you
2. DirtyB can fit in a brag that he reads books and a chastising of non book readers in a seemingly innocuous sentence shorter than this one. 7/4
to do
1. Squish it back into Pangea.
2. Clone self as many times as possible.
3. Eliminate hatred of self.
4. Have at least one avatar at least 25 percent as cool Mr. Wednesday at some point.
Love the book and like the series so far. I think the added details about Laura helped the story a lot.
Hit it? I'm leaning against, mostly because of the flies.
I think Jesus is so fucking big he doesn't even deign to exist in physical form, but that kind of evades the whole personification thing. Not sure.
I added Starz to the cable package because Ian McShane is the nuts.

Blasphemy. How many states have it banned?
Ian McShane is indeed god. The little vignette of how the show runners met Crispin Glover was pretty funny because I am pretty sure if you were to meet him that's exactly how it would happen.
shoot i dropped starz. twin peaks on showtime any good? i am not wasting time on any tv before sonatine approves!

New Twin Peaks is like it was made back in the 90's, but everyone got really old. Tempo of the show is the same. So it's really really slow. Much more like season 2 than season 1 with the amount of time spent in the red room and random weird stuff for no apparent reason.
Only 4 episodes in so a lot can happen and yea there's not that much to watch.
I have watched the first 4 American Gods. I really liked the first 3, but didn't really like the going back in time 4th episode. I was kind of more interested in what happens next and spending a whole episode to go back like that wasn't particularly compelling IMO.
Also, thought it was pretty lol that the giant dick pic on Laura's phone supposedly came from Dane Cook's character. Not buying that one for a second.
I was actually talking to an Egyptologist the other day about the feather of truth and was thinking about the show the whole time.
One of the better death mythos, yes.
