On dinner break. Of course I got dealt QQ vs KK vs AA. And JJ which folded.

Got out with minimum damage, and then I take more damage with Td5d vs Th8h.

Then I was hurt by table change shenanigans.

    400k at break

568 out of 10,000 is a tremendous achievement considering he didn’t get hit with the deck.

That kind of survival in the absence of luck is a testament to his talent.

WTF, am I drunk and/or seeing things, or were certain posts all of the sudden moved around to different subforums/ threads?

At least I outlasted all but one of the name players who played with me today.

This includes Scott Blumstein, Jason Mercier, Michael Mizrachi, and Patrik Antonius. All had a higher peak in chips at some point today than my peak (673k).

Erik Seidel (busted by me on Day 1) and Daniel Negreanu (replaced Seidel at my table, busted early Day 2) also played with me early on.

The only name player at my tables who outlasted me (and moved onto Day 5) was Tony Dunst.

Kind of a weird event for me. I went almost 4 full days and yet missed almost every draw I had. At the same time, I did not take many bad beats, though the only bad beat I put down was 99 vs TT on Day 4.

I was twice involved in an AA/KK/QQ hand -- on the right (AA) end during Day 2, and on the wrong (QQ) end during Day 3. I was proud of myself for getting out of the QQ just losing the minimum (77k), despite being below-average stacked at the time in the later stages when it's no longer that deep. Unfortunately, after that good fold, I just went on a losing streak where I basically lost every hand I entered, until I busted a few hours later.

I also made a correct fold with AK against KK on Day 2 -- in a heads-up spot, even though I was only risking 1/3 my stack to call.

I am finally over $1 million in Hendon Mob cashes.

    I have still never had a WSOP Main mincash or mincash-plus. My three cashes were 88/7319 (80k, in 2010), 128/8576 (59k, in 2019), and 568/10043 (32.5k, in 2023). I came close to cashing in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017, and especially 2021, but fell short each time. I have only busted Day 1 once (2014) in the past 14 Mains I've played. However, I've busted early Day 2 several times -- 2009, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2022.

One of these days, hopefully I'll finally have a hot run in the later stages, and I'll make the big money. A man can dream.

Oh and I have mixed feelings since busting.

Part of me knows that I never really had a hot run or any time when I was killing it, so it's not like I had a giant opportunity and either chunked it off or got coolered/beat. Kinda feels like I did about all I could with this one, and I cashed more than 2x the mincash, so what's there to bitch about?

On the other hand, I was only a little short of average in mid Day 4 when I got up to 673k, and from there you can really make a deep run of it if you get hot. I was the opposite, so I only lasted a few more hours before I was gone. So that was disappointing.

Still, my last 4 Main Events show that I'm competitive there -- 128th place in 2019, 50 off the money in 2021, and this 568th finish in 2023. Only 2022 did I not come close, in the past 4 tries.

I have to think that, while I'm not a young man, I will have other opportunities like this, and eventually the cards won't die on me. Also, as I did not play a ton of events this year, and didn't have any buyins above $3k except this one, I was easily profitable this series thanks to this cash. I had 100% of myself in everything.

Thanks to everyone for your support while I played. Always means a lot to me to see that.

You did really great, Druff! You had 2 big hands where your AA held up which is often not the case and got lucky to flop the set from behind against 1010. I didn't read anything you posted which made me think you made any mistakes. Your play was excellent the deck just wasn't in your favor late. You made the most of your opportunity. Nothing to have mixed feelings about IMO.

I enjoyed following your updates. Sounds like you brought your A game.

Little disappointed because I thought you were gonna make a balls deep type run this year.
