    Surrender in Blackjack

I don't play blackjack, not a game I'm interested in, but one of the local casino has these signs in the pit area that say that they offer Late Surrender on all blackjack tables. Knowing nothing about Blackjack is this even a big deal, do you even get any advantage or does this just create the illusion of advantage?

Surrender just means you get to take half the bet back and forfeit the rest. "Early surrender" (where the dealer does not check for blackjack first) is better for the player than "late surrender" (where the dealer peeks first and shows a blackjack without the option to surrender), because "early surrender" allows protection vs. dealer blackjacks.
As far as the strategy on WHEN to surrender.... I am not too familiar with that. According to the wizardoffodds website, late surrender adds 0.08% to a player's EV edge or disadvantage.

Late surrender works as described above.

It's a nice thing to have, especially if counting cards.

In general, you should use it when the dealer is showing a 9, T, or A against your hard 16, and when the dealer has T or A against your hard 15.

Use it more often when holding hard 14/15/16 if the count is high.

Thanks for the info. While I don't play blackjack I was interested in the topic. Maybe this info will be useful if I do find myself playing

I'll also remember "Dont get panic buddy.."
