I went to McDonalds after coming home from playing poker at 4 in the morning. I had cashed out an even hundred amount of money, so I only had 1 one dollar bill and a bunch of change. Obviously this isn't a problem when going to McDonalds as I had quite a few dollars worth of change in my car. But not wanting to give out a ton of change I just got a McDouble and a cup of water, and I expected the total to be $1.06. I pulled forward and the cashier lady says "$1.26 is your total". I said "Really? Isn't the McDouble on the dollar menu?" She very rudely says "Yes... the water is 19 cents". I say "It's usually free.. but whatever" and I pay the $1.26. Obviously I wasn't going to stand for this injustice so when I got home I e-mailed McDonalds customer support with the following:
The owner/supervisor of that McDonalds calls me back at 11:30am, but I was sleeping at the time so I didn't get to talk to her. Later I get an e-mail from her with the following:I recently visited a McDonalds and was charged 19 cents for a cup of water. That is ridiculous. I eat at McDonalds all the time and I have never been charged for a cup of water. I could understand doing this if somebody was only getting a water, but I am a paying customer and I don't appreciate being nickel and dimed. The store # was xxxx in xxxxxxxxxx, Fl.
SUCCESS!Dear Mr. xxxxxxxxx,
I have not been able to reach you by telephone but I did want to apologize for you being charged for your water. For some reason our register system does charge if you ring it up however I do not want to be charging our customers for water. After seeing your complaint, I spoke to the restaurant manager and told him not to do that and to ring it a different way. My apologies. I will be off next week but upon my return to work I will send you a couple coupons for your inconvenience.
