I have some colleagues (sadly not myself) heading to Florida (Miami / Fort Lauderdale) from the UK on business in the coming weeks.
Even though it will only be for a week or so it is really handy to have a 3G dongle for internet access in the office / hotel / airport etc. Something that can be just picked up from a retail shop with no contract and no heavy paperwork would be ideal. Can anyone recommend a carrier / package / tariff etc.

Have a look at getting a local sim card for your phone and then tether it. As long as your phone is unlocked it will take a new sim card. Also make sure the phone supports a major US network. Most newer ones sold in Europe do. You can buy the sim cards in most airports or in kiosks in most malls.
