TLDR- Its a shithole, but juicy poker until the bumbs lose their money.
Full Report-
I was in Albany for business and ended up with a free afternoon on Tuesday. My cab driver said Rivers had just opened, and I saw on Bravo 15 games or so on Monday night, so headed over there on Tuesday and arrived about 1115. There were already 3 1-2 games, and 2 2-5 games going and I got on both lists.
Casino itself was located in downtown Schenedcaty which is downtrodden and not a residential neighborhood. Cabs are filthy corrupt, too, with no meters and they just make up the fare when the get there.
I got a seat at 1-2, and played for an orbit with no significant hands. One aggressive player at table and the rest limp call donkeys (but that was only 15 minutes.) I then got called to 2-5 and the table was the same. There was one competent player for most of the time (other than me), and another aggressive player joined later. The rest were fish. Passive, limping, easy to read.
Since the room was new, it didn't seem filled with regulars either. Some, but not like all 9 people knew each other. I had four hands of significance, three against the same guy who I stacked twice, and one against an old nit where I folded an open ended straight, flush draw on the turn to his over shove. I think I was getting 2-1 to call an additional $300. Close, but I folded. 3.5 hours, +490. When I was up $800 I thought about moving to 5-10 (there was also 20-40 limit Omaha), but didn't because the table was so soft. 15 table room with 10 going on a Tuesday afternoon. That's some nice action.
Ate lunch at a burger place called Flips which was dogfood.
I predict this place will be dead and fail within 2 years once the locals lose all their mobnies. If you have some spare time in the next three months before the moneys gone, and can play tag, its worth your time.
No $5.
