The immense pain of losing a lot of money gambling in one night

I lost a lot of money last evening. Not a lot for the ballers on this site, but 7 large is 7 large. I actually got up like $4,000 and just got creamed on Pia Gow. I bet the Dealer and got crushed. I then took my $500 chips and went to black jack and got mauled. There were gasps at the table when I threw down my final 2 chips ($1,000) and the dealer got one of those 5 card pulls and got 21. I mean give me a fucking break I had two queens.

The raw pain of losing $7,000 sucks balls, but being up $4,000 and losing everything in like 40 minutes sucks more balls.

The next day really sucks, you have a newfound guilt of what you could have done with $7,000, let alone $11,000.

I cannot believe I sat down at Pia Gow. I know nothing about the game, I was the only guy there. The dealer was so disinterested, yet I was throwing down pink chips. You would have thought he could have given me some comment, but it was like I threw down 10 bucks. Fuck him.

Anyone suffered any huge losses lately on the table?

You're better off in the stock market and I'll tell you why. Monday I decided to do a nice little day trade for shits and giggles (actually was to pay off the golf clubs I bought). I noticed JNUG was down 50 cents and I'm familiar with JNUG so I said fuck it and bought 3k shares at $9.93. I immediately put in a sell order at $10.35 knowing it would bounce in around two minutes or less. $1200 profit in a few minutes. No big deal right? Well an hour later the stock was $7 and change and tanked from the minute I bought it. Here I sit Wednesday night and it's now sitting at $8.21 AH but I still have my money. And the adrenaline that goes along with the gamble aspect of it. I'll make a profit on the trade. Don't know when but I will.

Gambling in a casino can be fun. But I'm not even putting myself in a position to be up $4k knowing the odds are stacked against me going in. I'd rather sell options or dick around in the market. At least in the market you'll get a slow painful death.

Good post. I am telling you this, I knew I needed to go out the fucking door when I got up $4,000. I basically had back to back hits on roulette, one was for $800 and the next two pulls were for $3,000 when I put on red and it hit. The adrenaline just got to me, that $4,000 was turning into $40,000 in my head. That was about 11pm. Midnight it was all gone.

Hold on, you went to a casino, gambled, lost and feel bad?

I'm sorry I have never heard of this scenario before, very odd sequence of events.

The word gambling covers a wide range. Roulette and many others are more of a donation. I was addicted to online poker and I'm still on the drugs but I can't imagine how tough it would be to have a heavy gambling habit

You call it pain, others call it pleasure. There are a lot of addicted gamblers who love the feeling of going broke in the casino. The brain releases some chemicals as you watch your last wager lose. Been there, done that.

True story re leaving when your up really fast...

Back in my AC days, I sat down to an action 2/5 NL game at Caesars. Bought in for the max ($500) and within 45 mins was up a grand. A super action player sits to my right, and immediately starts pounding pre-flop raises. I'm salivating thinking I have the best position on him. Turns out (1) I was in the *worst* position, as he was a maniac, which a lot of the rest of the table caught onto, and (2) I had a slew of good starting pocket pairs and suited connectors but couldn't connect on the flop, or hit afterwards. And because of my position, I'd get bounced by massive reraises by snakes in the grass who limped in before he routinely agroed preflop. Over the next three hours, my $1500 stake dwindled to zero, I bought in for another $500 and that also melted away in a few hours to preflop calling hands that missed or were too weak to play to the reraises.

I lost $2,200 on a set of kings back in the day at a similar table. Guy flopped a straight and I knew it when I bet the river, I just could not get away from a set of Kings on the flop.

Just like I should have walked away from $4,000 last night, same thing that night. I knew I was beat but bet anyway. Fuck.

When I have time one night Ill explain how I got a guy to muck the winning hand and took down a $7600 pot at 10/20 when I was very tired and couldn't see straight after a marathon. Ok Ill say now... so huge pot heads up, I call top two after he calls my all in and as I go to turn my cards over he yells in disappointment and mucks! To even my shock I didn't have top 2 I had top and bottom but swore I thought it was tops or I wouldn't have even gone all in. He reaches for his cards partly in muck, dealer yells NO!!!! and blocks him, undercover cop is there in minutes as he goes nuts grabbing at the pot.

It was an honest mistake on my part, he wasn't pleased and the fact he was Chinese and couldn't speak two words of good English made it that much better.

Fast forward two weeks and I see him again in the room, he walks in and literally throws about $5 G's at me and yells you steal this too! I picked it up and pocketed it but the cop who had to come again asked me nicely to please give it back, so I did.
