i agree about the Raiders, however, the stats about the stadium deal are kinda fucked and non standard.
The only thing I didn't like was the city not getting an ownership stake in the stadium. Rolling tourists for a dollar a night is fine with me.

This town needed a real stadium. Sam Boyd is way on the edge of town and 45 years old. We were going to spend hundreds of millions on a new place for UNLV anyway. Might as well do it big and bring in a bunch of conventions and events that we had been losing to Dallas and other places.

I like the idea of Vegas having a team, I think they should get more, I think it'll sell out every game.

The hidden gem in this move is that AFTER the game on Sunday all the fans that are going back to California will have a great place to stop......

Those are an 8 hour drive in the opposite direction.

I thought the same thing and was going to make the same post yesterday. Then I looked it up and Pahrump is right on the way to Oakland as the crow flies.

Pahrump is a lot closer, but still in the wrong direction. I know you're thinking of the ones near Reno, but he posted at least one Pahrump brothel.

Here is how the new stadium is proposed to look:

Surprised they are not including a retractable roof. An open air stadium in Las Vegas?

But that's not the Vegas Strip where the Raiders will play after owners on March 27 approved the team's relocation by a shockingly lopsided 31-1 vote. They're moving in either 2019 or 2020 to a Vegas that is fading, thanks to the continuing fallout from the real estate crash a decade ago and millennials' deep distaste for casino games. Wide swaths of craps tables and roulette wheels sit empty on casino floors as 20-somethings, mesmerized by their smartphones, idle on leather chairs with their backs turned to the pulsating penny slot machines. Deep debt hangs over most gaming corporations, and a handful are untangling themselves from multibillion-dollar bankruptcies. Many casinos now charge for parking, once unheard of in an industry designed to make it easy for customers to enter and all but impossible to leave. The old Stardust's land has remained unused for the past decade; multibillion-dollar behemoth casino projects now end up in faster-growing cities. A palpable feeling of dread exists, as if the ultimate boom-and-bust town is destined to become the next Detroit. "For Vegas, it's third-and-11 coming up," says David Malinsky, a leading sports gambling expert who has lived there for 30 years. "If not for the Raiders, there just isn't much left in the playbook."

I'm in the desert regularly. This guy doesn't know shit. Vegas is doing better than it has in a decade. The only thing that will change their trajectory is a terrorist attack at a strip hotel - which is overdue.

This is exaggerated. Vegas knows it can't rely just on gambling anymore and has been diversifying their revenue for a couple of decades now. They make money from clubs, restaurants, shows, etc. now, and they know they can't sacrifice these revenue sources in the interest of making it up on gambling revenue, except from the whales. Like any tourist trap, they overcharge for everything. It's part of the game. Vegas will always be Vegas.
