Overall, a truly terribly thought out idea.
Some leave then sure but others can easily stay an extra day which actually lowers your flight price as well not flying out on Sunday.

I wonder what Al Davis would of thought of the move.
I'm excited about the move and will definitely buy season tickets when they go on sale.

I'm absolutely fine with the stadium being full of visiting team's fans. Tourists are the reason I don't pay state income tax.

Or does the unthinkable happen over there were people actually trade allegiances?
A football team works better for Las Vegas then any other professional sport because almost all the games are played on a Sunday allowing the weekend travelers to see an NFL game as well as the locals who some bet big money and might want to go watch it live.

Having a hard time getting tickets for your local NFL team and you love traveling to Vegas? Go see them there to get the best of both worlds.

Hockey is a tougher sell imo with the sport not having as much of a following and games being played in the middle of the week. That's not to mention the fact the Las Vegas NHL team is destined to suck for at least a few years due to them building through an expansion draft full of second rated players the other teams didn't protect.

The most important thing is filling the seats and their are enough travelers in town to do that with NFL games on a Sunday imo but as for their memorabilia sales that remains to be seen.

The Raiders should be competitive next year so that is a bonus.
I disagree on the part about the knights hockey team sucking for too long. A couple facts

    1. The GM for LV is the Former GM of the Capitals who is responsible for the massive talent pile on that team currently, who drafted Ovechkin, Bäckström, Holtby, Carlson among several others. The guy has a sick eye for talent.

    2. The Florida Panthers entered the NHL in 1993. They played for the Cup in 1996. Three seasons is all it took to go from fledgling team to Finalists. (They've won the same number of Conference championships my Caps have and made it there three yrs into existence and 2 yrs before the Caps did).

    3. The expansion draft is gonna see some decent talent end up in Vegas as teams are limited in who they can protect. Half the goalies will be available as only one can be protected.

As for attendance I believe the minor league team had decent attendance despite playing at the Orleans.

Considering how bad some teams are in the West I'd almost guess LV will not finish last in it's division next year.

As for the Raiders moving. It was a done deal. They should've moved soon. O Coliseum is a shithole and no way was a new stadium being built and the 49ers weren't sharing Levi Stadium. What's worse is the Warriors will be moving across the Bay to San Fran soon as well leaving only the As in Oakland Proper. And yes playing Sundays is a boon for Vegas. Folks who can't get home tickets due to sellouts will travel to see their teams on the road.

Only 8 home games a year. I would guess they would sellout every game forever. The casinos will scoop up most of the VIP boxes for whales and other seats for mini-whales and the rest by tourists and locals.

He would have loved it and sued the NFL if they voted it down.

The Raiders will have a large fan base from So. Cal that will travel up to Vegas for the weekend to watch home games. The fans in the bay will come down and spend the weekend then drive back home. The Casinos will buy all the luxury seats and give them like candy to high rollers and special guests. The locals will just be happy to have a team to watch. Over 2 million people live in the region so filling a 60k+ seat stadium will be easy. This is a win win for any fan of the raiders in the area or gamblers who like some free swag. The Broncos-Raiders games are going to be huge in Vegas.

BTW cant wait for a Superbowl in Vegas

In a statement late Monday, Adelson expressed shock about the family being excluded from leasing talks involving the Raiders.

"The Oakland Raiders came before the Las Vegas Stadium Authority last week with a proposed lease agreement that has sent shockwaves through out community," the statement lead. "It was certainly shocking to the Adelson family. We were not only excluded from the proposed agreement; we weren't even aware of its existence."

Adelson continued, "In addition to being discouraged by the surprise submission, I was deeply disappointed for the disregard the Raiders showed out community partners, particularly UNLV, through the proposed agreement. It's clear the Raiders have decided their path for moving to Las Vegas does not include the Adelson family."

Adelson concluded, "While this is not the result my family was hoping for, I am very appreciative of the countless people who have given considerable time and energy to this process, especially so many of our elected officials who have made this a top priority of Southern Nevada."
Good!!!!! Fuck him with the biggest black Raider dick possible. Knowing he was going to be part of the ownership group was a black eye on the whole situation. Glad to see they were "shocked" by this outcome. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of scum.

Agreed but looks like this is putting the whole deal in jeopardy. Apparently Goldman is getting cold feet, and wouldn't be shocked if Adelson threatened to no longer do business with them if they didn't back out as well.

Reminds me of when Hamilton, ON tried for an NHL team.

Blackberry was doing really well and Jim Balsillie was rich off his ass. He wanted a team in Hamilton so he ran ticket drives, setup websites, did press, etc. which pissed off the owners and especially Bettman for not doing it his way.

End result? Lots of wasted time/money and no team.

I had no idea that Hamilton was ever in the running for any kind of professional sports team.

Hamilton is a city few Americans have heard of, despite its population being about 500k. (Not that it would have affected this situation, but seriously... mention Hamilton to any American outside of upstate NY, and see if they've heard of it.)

But how would there have been a market for that team, given that Toronto is just 37 miles away, and Buffalo is 65 the other direction?

Actually 538 did an analysis of markets for hockey expansion based on fan interest levels, population, profitability, etc. and determined that a team in Hamilton would be more likely to succeed than one in Vegas. It also said a team in Quebec City where the Nordiques used to be, a bunch of medium-sized cities in Eastern Canada like Halifax, and a second team in Toronto or Vancouver, would all do better than Vegas.

Hamilton does have its own CFL team despite Toronto having a team close by.

The Golden Horseshoe is basically an area from Niagara to Toronto. 9m people.

Hamilton, once a thriving Steeltown, is well known as the armpit of Canada. That said, they could easily support an NHL team. This is a hockey market like no other due to the sheer population draw. There's also a lot of wealth in the surrounding cities. I live close by.

Jim Balsillie (RIM/Blackberry) tried to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2006 and move them to Hamilton. Probably would have gotten it if he wasn't such an arrogant dick about it.

IIRC Mario Lemieux had just taken over the team and they were in big trouble in Pitt and Balsillie was willing to pay top dollar. The year before was a lock out year in the NHL and the league had a lottery to establish the draft order. Pitt won it and drafted some kid named Sidney Crosby. 2 Stanley Cups later all is good in Pitt.

Balsillie has basically disappeared along with Blackberry and Hamilton will never see an NHL team.

A second team in Toronto is the way to go...

Hamilton was a non-starter with Toronto having veto authority on any new team within it's market jurisdiction. They did not talk about it publicly because they didn't want any of their existing fanbase to get upset so they let Bettman take the hit. There was talk about Newmarket a few years back but same result.

Once Trump completes the collapse of the USD and the hightech braindrain shifts North I could see Quebec getting one of the fallout failing USA teams. They have the arena being built with mafia money already, they are energy independent with huge natural resource reserves. Their economy will support it.
