    Las Vegas Raiders

Well looks strongly Las Vegas is getting a NFL team with the paperwork filed today.

The Oakland Raiders have filed their paperwork to relocate to Las Vegas, the league announced on Thursday.

The move was expected before the Feb. 15 deadline, sources had told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The proposed 65,000-seat domed stadium the Raiders want to play in is expected to cost $1.9 billion, including $750 million in hotel tax revenue, $650 million from billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson and $500 million from the Raiders and the NFL.

    I don't get it.

Where do they expect to find the fans to support this team. Surely NFL fans will already have a team they support?

Or does the unthinkable happen over there were people actually trade allegiances?

A football team works better for Las Vegas then any other professional sport because almost all the games are played on a Sunday allowing the weekend travelers to see an NFL game as well as the locals who some bet big money and might want to go watch it live.

Having a hard time getting tickets for your local NFL team and you love traveling to Vegas? Go see them there to get the best of both worlds.

Hockey is a tougher sell imo with the sport not having as much of a following and games being played in the middle of the week. That's not to mention the fact the Las Vegas NHL team is destined to suck for at least a few years due to them building through an expansion draft full of second rated players the other teams didn't protect.

The most important thing is filling the seats and their are enough travelers in town to do that with NFL games on a Sunday imo but as for their memorabilia sales that remains to be seen.

The Raiders should be competitive next year so that is a bonus.

Guess that makes sense I suppose.

There's a tiny football team in Spain I'll go watch when over there. They actually attract more tourist fans than locals.

Not fussed when they lose mind.

They will be in Oakland until the new stadium is built.

Moving the team from one of the wealthiest metropolitan areas in the US for the desert, what could go wrong?

    Wrong, ballbag.

Any 'one team' NFL fan worth their salt will know where I'm coming from with that question.

Think about the apps the Vegas sports books now have.

An important growth aspect of those apps is live wagering.

Imagine all the fans and their phones in hand. Logged in and fumbling through live odds. Imagine next play or next series live bets. It'll be like Sonatine's Christians and the Lions in the coliseum. No player will be safe. Lol.

If Nevada doesn't go soft and blackout local games with sports books - this fan experience will serve to be the biggest catalyst to legalized sports wagering in the US.

    Fantastic to consider.

Simp, Kroenke's stadium with those 2 teams in that market is gonna be a massive fail. Yuge

Why would there be an expansion draft if the current owner is moving a current team to a different city?

You're right it will probably be at least two to three years but the team could be competitive at the time they move compared to an upstart hockey team.

The Raiders have a great young team....but if things do run sour, the venue threatens to become a neutral site within 5+ years as Las Vegas isn't the most stable economy due to its reliance on tourism. Although that might be hurt if the state doesn't allow bets on the Raiders.

I wonder what Al Davis would of thought of the move.

I'm taking Las Vegas professional sports in the 2025 death pool. Mark it down.

I think he mixed it up with San Diego.

LA is only about 6 hrs.

A new stadium in this location is likely to offer a *Lot* of corporate/high roller party room biz. Those facilities make a ton of money the team owners don't have to share with other teams per the revenue sharing agreement.

Weekend travelers leave Vegas on Sunday, they do NOT want to stick around. Sunday afternoon football game gets over at 6PM, a 8PM flight(where are you storing your bags?!) means you get back to Central time zone way past midnight, lose 2 hrs and 3 hr flight. Overall, a truly terribly thought out idea.
