A story ran in various news outlets, such as the Washington Times and picked up on the Fox website itself claiming there's a group paying people to protest against Trump.
Pretty outrageous, right? Except the whole thing is an obvious hoax. You'd need a pretty bonkers budget to be able to offer a $30k/yr salary + benefits and be able to do it on the scale of thousands of people. Tucker Carlson took the guy down and things got real, REAL quick.Demand Protest, a San Francisco company that bills itself as the “largest private grassroots support organization in the United States,” posted identical ads Jan. 12 in multiple cities on Backpage.com seeking “operatives.”
“Get paid fighting against Trump!” says the ad.
“We pay people already politically motivated to fight for the things they believe. You were going to take action anyways, why not do so with us!” the ad continues. “We are currently seeking operatives to help send a strong message at upcoming inauguration protests.”
The job offers a monthly retainer of $2,500 plus “our standard per-event pay of $50/hr, as long as you participate in at least 6 events a year,” as well as health, vision and dental insurance for full-time operatives.
But does anybody know who this guy really is? I wonder what the guy's real agenda is. Was he just doing it for the lulz? Or did he want to discredit legit Trump protesters? Or did he want to have conservative media outlets buy into it and then have it exposed as "fake news"?
And is Tucker going hard ball on this guy to try to get Kelly's vacant 8pm slot?
