I've never been in a "dead pool" but aren't the rules you can't pick somebody who's been diagnosed with something terminal like Gord Downie was?

No, that's not in our rules. Terminal patients can live well longer than their given 'expiration date' and part of good research in picking your team is finding people with ticking clocks and gambling that they take the dirt nap in the current contest period.
