I had family obligations in DC this weekend so I took advantage of being a little further north than usual. I started the stay at the Gaylord National Harbor. It's a Catagory 6 Marriott but with all the kids there for the Holiday festivities I rate in a 2. After checking in we headed to the new MGM that opened on December 9th.
MGM National Harbor:
2pm visit- casino is more like a Vegas style casino vs Maryland's other 5 casinos. It wasn't overly crowded but the area had some bad weather in the morning. Table game limits were a little lower than expected. There were a lot of $50 & $100 min. tables. I did find a $25 craps table. The poker room had around 20 out of 39 tables going. Limits ranged from 1/3 NL-5/10. They are getting some bigger limits at night. 10/25NL and 60/120 limit. The word is the games are great. Only spent an hour.
9pm visit- Headed back to the casino and it was a mad house. A 10 minutes trip turned into 30 minutes in Uber just to be dropped off. Every table game was $100 min. accept a few $50 craps tables. Poker room was pretty full. I played craps for 30 minutes and called it quits. It's obvious the limits are to high b/c people were buying in for $200 after every roll. The craps table attracts a lot of DC thugs with pants down to their ankles. I actually saw one buy in for $50 in $1's. The buy ins slowed the game down so much I left after less than an hour. The cashier line was the longest line I had ever seen. It blocked an exit and 2 bar lines. I headed to the poker room and there was 1 person in line with 2 cashiers. It took 45 minutes to get back to the hotel in Uber.
Next day we headed to Atlantic City for a couple nights at Caesars.
Check in was smooth and got a comped ocean front corner room. It was Sunday and the place was not busy at all. Normal table limits of $10. Headed to where they have always had the $1 9/6 JOB and they were gone. Looked around and found 25 cent 9/6 with a jackpot of $1050. Sat down for some drinks and hit a couple 4 of a kinds. I did finally realize that they changed the machines to $50 per tier point. WTF!!! This is insane. They also don't have $1 machines??? Place in going down quicker than I thought. Hit the craps table with the usual outcome. We did visit Morton's for happy hour. The bar was slow so it was a peaceful break.
Monday there were 12 people in the entire casino. It's a sad place. We walked over to Bally's and there were more yellow security guards than players. I was happy when I found a $1 9/6. It kicked my ass very quickly and we retreated to the Pier Shops now called the Play Ground. They actually have some good happy hours. I looked at Bravo once and the WSOP poker room had 4 games running. All low limit NL Holdem. The best part of the trip was White House Subs.
AC is a sad place. I think the only option is legalize sports betting! Maryland poker is AWESOME! Can't wait to hit MGM again to see if the rumors are true.
