First off, I want to welcome everyone to pokerfraudalert.com. I hope that this turns into a successful project. If it doesn't, well... at least it's not what I do for a living.
Speaking of which, I put this entire site together myself. This isn't a brag, but rather an excuse. While I was a programmer by trade before quitting the work force to play poker, one thing I was never good at was design. I've never been good at color schemes, layouts, graphics, or anything like that. I wasn't even a good artist in elementary school. Therefore, I'm very open to suggestions regarding all aspects of this site, especially the design-related issues.
You can either post them in this forum or in the Bugs & Suggestions forum.
Also make sure to let me know about any bugs or ease-of-use flaws. Basically, if anything pisses you off about using this forum, I want to know about it. I'm aiming to please the majority, not myself.
After we get this forum stable, I'll be putting up a radio server and a chat room. I have not yet decided the direction of the radio show itself, but there will be one, and it will be created soon.
I'm also going to be implementing some kind of "rewards" system for people that contribute to this site. I realize that forums are only as good as the users participating in them, and I don't feel these users should be exploited for profit. Rather, I feel they should get something out of helping my site grow. This rewards system will revolve around Pahticipation Points, which the user will earn by posting, making photoshops, making videos, or doing anything else that helps the site. Eventually you will be able to trade in your Pahticipation Points for PokerFraudAlert merchandise (hats, t-shirts, etc) and/or pieces of my action in the World Series of Poker.
How will I make money? Maybe I won't. I'll try to sign up a few sponsors, or perhaps attach an affiliate program to this site. Regardless, you have my promise that I will never take money from any individual or company with a reputation of shadiness, nor will I ever "protect" sponsors from unflattering stories being posted about them.
Regarding the forums themselves, there are three "serious business" forums where I don't want to see any trolling or garbage. They are "Poker & Blackjack Discussion", "Bugs & Suggestions", and "Scams, Scandals, and Shadiness".
The other two forums,"Flying Stupidity" (this one) and "The Bathroom Wall" have much more lax rules.
I will try to be mostly "hands off" with moderating those forums (especially The Bathroom Wall), but I don't want to see any of the following:
1) Pornography or "shock pictures"
2) People who are here only to ruin the forum with trolling or constant negativity
3) People who "take over" the forum by posting too many messages/threads or pick fights with everyone
4) Personal information. Don't post phone numbers, addresses, or workplace information. Also don't post anyone's full name or picture if they haven't made it public.
Basically, I want you to have fun and be yourself, but I don't want this turning into an immature cespool of shock pictures and juvenile trolling.
There will not be any moderators here. Perhaps I will appoint some "local" moderators for certain niche forums in the future (say, if someone wanted to run a sportsbetting forum), but there won't be any global moderators that will be enforcing rules, banning people, etc. That will all be on me. I don't want to be anyone's boss and tell them what to do, nor do I want someone moderating this forum in a manner that contradicts my vision. Unless this place gets huge to where I can't moderate it myself (which is unlikely), there will be no mods here.
I typed this message in the WYSIWYG editor, which is the editor that pretty much looks like you're typing up a Microsoft Word document. It's pretty cool, but I noticed some bugs where my cursor jumped to other parts of the screen, which was super-annoying. If you don't want this editor, you can change it by going here:
http://pokerfraudalert.com/forum/pro...do=editoptions (scroll to near the bottom of the page, under "Miscellaneous Options").
In the meantime, I will try to track down and fix these bugs.
Please suggest (or create) some custom smilies for me to add to the forum. I haven't had time to do that yet.
Have fun!
