How the media lies and misleads you about the "dangers" of weed, Exhibit A

This right here is such a fucking classic example of their bullshit, I just could not resist breaking this "new study" down that shows marijuana use linked to....heart problems!! Yes you heard that correctly, there has been a new study published that clearly shows the link and holy shit maybe they were right after all!! Druff was too!

Let's start with the initial tweet...

    CNN ‏@CNN 1h1 hour ago
Marijuana use can weaken heart muscles, particularly in young men, according to a new study http://cnn.it/2fryWce
No fucking way! Well that just confirms what everyone thought anyway, except the "druggies" of course. Joke is on them now, they will soon be experiencing heart problems if they keep smoking that weed! It clearly shows a link. We don't even have to click on the story, we can just park that little nugget in our brains so when this debate comes up we can throw it in their face.

Now the "headline" of the article, in big bold letters at the top of the page.....

    Does marijuana weaken heart muscles?
Wayminute...why does it say "Does" like it is a question or something? That is rather odd, I mean the shock and awe tweet clearly said it weakens heart muscles, but maybe they just wanted to walk it back a bit and keep the audience wondering so they would actually read the article.

Let's get into the "nuts and bolts" for anyone who isn't lazy enough to just believe some click bait headline designed to drive traffic. That would be this guy right here, that lazy ass weed smoker and surely not the Druff's of the world who would randomly believe that header.

    Marijuana users vs. non-users

The researchers, from St. Luke's University Hospital Network, focused on patients with stress cardiomyopathy, a sudden temporary weakening of the heart muscle that prevents it from pumping. Patients with the condition, which has been said to mimic a heart attack, can experience acute chest pain, shortness of breath and dizziness.

The muscle weakness is most often caused by acute stress or grief, such as a breakup or the death of a loved one. However, according to Dr. Amitoj Singh, the lead investigator of the study, at least two cases of stress cardiomyopathy in medical literature have been related to marijuana use.

"There have been many reports of heart attacks, strokes and the two cases of (stress cardiomyopathy) that have been linked to marijuana," Singh said.
Greater availability of marijuana, particularly for recreational use, has heightened concern in the medical community about cardiac risks, sparking Singh's interest
    .

Oh shit....many cases "linked" to marijuana users heart problems! Doctor just said it. Even strokes caused by marijuana!

So on to the "control group". If that is what you want to call it.

Using Nationwide Inpatient Sample data from 2003 to 2011, the researchers tracked hospital admissions and outcomes of 33,343 patients with stress cardiomyopathy. The data were taken from across the country and represented both men and women of varied ages. Two groups were formed from the data: one group of marijuana users (which had 210 patients, or 1% of the total study pool) and a group of patients who did not use the drug.

Each group was strikingly different in terms of demographics, medical histories and outcomes. The marijuana users tended to be younger and more often male, a finding that was surprising to Singh, because stress cardiomyopathy most often occurs in older women, he said.

Marijuana users also had fewer risk factors that typically cause stress cardiomyopathy, such as acute stress, hypertension, diabetes, migraines and hyperthyroidism. The non-marijuana-using group had much higher rates of these conditions.

"Even though these young people had less cardiac risk factors, they still had high cardiac risk," Singh said.

Marijuana users also suffered more severe cardiac problems. "Despite being younger and with fewer cardiovascular risk factors than non-users, during stress cardiomyopathy, the marijuana users were significantly more likely to go into cardiac arrest (2.4% vs. 0.8%) and to require an implanted defibrillator to detect and correct dangerously abnormal heart rhythms (2.4% vs. 0.6%)," the American Heart Association said of the study in a news release.
Jesus. It is true. The weed users even had lower risk factors in other areas so it is even worse than you could imagine. OUR KIDS ARE DYING.

    But it get worse!! Boo!

Investigating further, the researchers created a model that excluded all of the known causes of stress cardiomyopathy to see whether marijuana use alone could trigger the condition. They found a statistically significant relationship between the drug and stress cardiomyopathy, Singh said.

"Someone who uses marijuana is almost two times more likely to develop stress cardiomyopathy," he explained.
Double the rate of heart conditions! Pay special attention to the bolded part.

Now we get to the good part, completely buried in paragraph 13 if you haven't kicked down your kids bedroom door yet searching for that poison that is killing them slowly.

However, the report also found that marijuana users were more likely to use tobacco and illicit substances, as well as suffer from depression, than non-marijuana users.

Dr. Ann Bolger, a professor of clinical medicine at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association, said these factors can contribute to stress cardiomyopathy. "It's hard to know exactly that you can account for all of these other contributors" when determining causation of the condition, she said.
Oh so we have just a BIT of a problem with their little "study". Remember the doctor who said just one paragraph ago that there is clearly a link between marijuana use ALONE and the issue? Well guess what this doctor just said in the next paragraph? That guy was full of shit. Because none of the "control study" was asked about any other drug use, and it was just assumed that they smoked weed, smoked weed only and THAT was the reason for the heart issues. In reality they have no fucking idea what causes the issues they saw, and there is not a fucking shred of evidence that "marijuana alone" had anything to do with what they found.

But the anti weed zealots of the world will just eat that tweet/headline up like a big bowl of Lucky Charms in the morning, without reading a completely fabricated headline designed to lie to the people about the "dangers" of a plant. I wonder how much big pharma buys in advertising from CNN every year. I will say these articles are fairly uncommon these days since there hasn't been one legitimate study, or death.....or anything that can actually be proven linked directly to weed. All of the studies since legalization have basically said the opposite, so even the medical community is now grasping for straws in any way they can so they can keep pushing pills to the junkies. They literally have nothing, so they have to just use scare tactics as reefer madness 2016 goes on.

Compared to old times we're still fairly ok in the "dangers" of weed department.

Still you would think you'd have to at least separate people that smoke tobacco from the study. Something we know causes cardiovascular diseases.

A random article about smoking tobacco weakening the heart muscle from 1984...

    http://www.nytimes.com/1984/11/08/us...rt-muscle.html

...not exactly exact science when you start conveniently forgetting past science.
