Pics, Videos & Quick Update From Diego Garcia

Just paid for a WiFi card to upload some pics and vids since leaving Singapore on the 28th of Oct.

I mentioned before that our ships satellite internet connection is piss poor, so this is my opportunity to share some media I've been collecting over the last 10 days.

I will say that I really hit the jackpot with this contract. I landed the 'rotary' permanent Chief Steward job which is 4 months on, 3 months off.

The crew is super chill and everybody gets along, which is extremely rare in the shipping business.

More often than not, there is friction and animosity which makes for a stressful working environment. In my case, its quite the opposite.

Although I was looking forward to visiting some exotic ports around the world, my company negotiated a shuttle run with MSC (Military Sealift Command) between Singapore and Diego Garcia for at least the next year.

The upside is that we are tied up 2 weeks a month in beautiful Diego Garcia.

Here are a bunch of pics and a few videos from the last couple of weeks....posted in chronological order top to bottom from the night we sailed out of Singapore to yesterday at the beach in Diego

You have got to be pinching yourself. This time last year you were posting pictures of mice eating your skittles. Now you are traveling overseas making $11K a month. Good stuff.

    Captain a good dude?

Lol the mice pics were awesome

But yea the captain is chill as fuck and he has been praising my dept for cranking out quality food

When we docked in Diego, obv I headed to the seamans club to suck down some cocktails after a week at sea with no booze

I was a little paranoid about being seen drinking by any of the officers and the captain..

By midnight I was doing yaeger bombs with the captain, chief mate and chief engineer

    Super chill crew...I'm pretty stoked

Spent the last 4 months getting all my docs in order and landed the best possible job I could have hoped for

Damn man, that food looks good. Your recipes?

How long is the run from Singapore to Diego Garcia? Super rough in the open water?

I can handle a lot, but I'd be sick as hell out there.

    Yea my recipes

Well not mine really. I spent 6 weeks before I shipped out gathering as many relatively simple ones as possible.

I'm no Gordon Ramsay, but I spent 15 months in my unions culinary academy over 20 years ago

My skills aren't great, but sufficient enough to feed 20 people 3 times a day

This is hard work, but when I start feeling drained, I just whisper to myself '11 grand a month' and put my headphones on

Will post more pics and vids when I have the chance

Oh and BTW Donald J. Trump is our next president

Can you offset at least breakfast to a assistant? In other words, just like being at home not every meal needs to be a production or elaborate. Can you just tell a helper to scramble some eggs for these fuckers and climb back into bed?

Actually I get dinner off today

    The captain is ordering pizza

My 1st meal off since signing on

But to answer your question... No I pretty much work breakfast lunch and dinner...its a grind.

Having trouble sleeping the last few days due to bad cramps in my hands and forearms for some reason...prob due to a lot of heavy lifting with ship stores etc.

We will be doing up a nice BBQ on the way back to Singapore next week....obv will get pics

On a side note, I missed the last bus back to the dock last night and walked over 4 miles back to the ship. Kinda fried to say the least

Have to get breakfast ready in about an hour. This is a very demanding job, but I feel blessed to be here

What then is your sleep schedule like having to prepare 3 meals a day?

And any noticeable physical effects from being dry for a week?

Actually I was surprised. Thought I would miss alcohol on the week long run to Diego, but I slipped into a routine and really didn't miss it at all. Obv the first night in port got totally smashed though.

Sleep habits are kind of all over the place....I wake up around 5 am...hook up breakfast...usually do some baking and then prep lunch...most days I'll make a homemade soup.

Lunch is served at 1130 to 1230 so I have a couple hours before dinner to take break. Some days are harder than others depending on the amount of prep work needed for each entree'

Dinner is done about 530 and I usually hit the seamans club or the officers club to slam some beers and do a few shots....or just retire to my cabin to binge on Game of Thrones (currently wrapping up season 2)

All in all, I haven't worked this hard in years, and my body is sore as fuck adjusting to the new physical regiment.

One more question(s). How do you buy supplies? In other words, let's say you want to cook lasagna. How do you buy this stuff, and make sure you have enough. My big fear in this is to build a dish and not have nearly enough when its done. Also, when you are sea for a week, how do you keep track of 21 meals without running out of food? I could easily see like day #5 like WTF I ran out of eggs.
