Trump was a celebrity (but first a businessman too) that was universally shunned by the entertainment industry in America. Here in America if you're a celebrity and don't lean left you are an outcast. He was an absolute pariah and make no mistake this result was a big middle finger to all of Hollywood too.
He was the host of his own reality show that dealt exclusively with celebrities trying to become his apprentice for 8 seasons on a major network in prime time with solid ratings. Not exactly universal shunning.

How else could he generate the early buzz to gain a following. But to say he wasn't shunned by the entertainment industry is being purposely naive or disingenuous.
One could argue that the left are generally more lazy by nature. I think the fact the MSM refused to acknowledge the Trump movement and threat to win just fed into that complacency and spurred more enthusiasm from the right.
