Hogan should've won, Gawker did violated his privacy.
However, the jury should've awarded no more than $1000 in damages.
The kicker is that, in order to appeal, gawker has to put up like 50 million in bonds. Florida law says you need to put up the entire judgment plus interest before appealing, but $50m is the cap.
Will the judgment be lowered? Gawker might not be able to stick around long enough to find out.
The $115 million awarded to Hogan breaks down to $55 million for "economic injuries", $60 million for "emotional distress". Hogan could be getting even more from the jury as punitive damages have yet to be decided. That comes next week.
If the jury gives him another $100 million that would be nuts.

The jury award doesn't include punitive damages so Hogan could get an even bigger judgement.
Gawker should win on appeal because Bubba The Love Sponge testified in another case that Hogan knew there were cameras recording when he encouraged him to fuck his wife. The judge wouldn't let Gawker use that testimony.
Hulk Hogan is probably broke since he was fired from the WWE for using the word "n-word" is a video interview years ago.
Hogan should consider accepting a lower amount (maybe $20 million) since Gawker can't pay anywhere near $115 million.

in all seriousness that judge did a horrible job. i mean the rulings on some of the motions were either idiotic or blatantly biased. it should get overturned on appeal. hopefully it does

Whats ironic is how this judgement got to be what it was.. When Hogan filed the lawsuit it was originally for $100M estimated to be a 50/50 seeking 50 for compensatory and 50 for punative..
In closing arguments Hogans lawyer again asked for the $50million..
Jury blew both sides out of the water with their decision as even Hogans lawyer didn't expect a judgement in compensatory damages over 2X what was asked for in the lawsuit. (no matter how far down this gets settled gawker just basically set up this lawyers family for life for the next 5 generations..) Not sure where it leaves Hogan as his son hasn't been the same since the wreck when he killed his best friend and his daughter is a failed model at this point.. Hope they enjoy their trustfunds from daddy.. (Hogan is 62 and given his history of Steroids and such if he makes it to 70 itll be a miracle)

The issue of punative hasn't even come out yet the Jury is set to come back and continue deliberating on Punative damages next week.. Some are saying Gawkers total hit could top $200-$250Million dollars obviously they will appeal and already said they would but wowsers.. Jury sent a clear and harsh message. My guess is their goal was to bankrupt and put Gawker out of business for good which might not be such a bad thing..
pretty much everyone paying attention knew hogan was going to win this trial, and that the real battle would be the appeals, if gawker lives long enough to make that happen. This was a jury trial where the biggest, most famous local celeb got fucked by his friend and some awful New York bloggers. Trial was practically over after jury selection.
