went to tour opener in worcester the other night. carini opening of set 2 was fucking sick
first show i went to in 8 or 9 years and it was a solid night all around,
watching the nitrous mafia run the lot after the show was pretty interesting as well
Listening now. Good stuff. Never been to a phish show before but my new little lady is a huge fan and got tickets for us to go to their show in San Fran in August. She keeps telling me there is nothing in the world like a phish concert. China sent me some videos of the show he was at this weekend. Looked awesome.
My friends think that I am making up the name "Nitrous Mafia".
They have No Clue how fucked up those people are. When you are a sketchy wook who has not much to live for, and someone fucks with your livelihood (income from selling balloons full of Nitrous Oxide), you will resort to all kinds of fucked up things.
I went to the Dead at Philly in 09 (last concert at the Spectrum). I saw 14 people selling balloons in one area of the parking lot alone.
Ya it was a pretty damn good show. Both were excellent but I preferred night #2
Was that the official "nitrus mafia" from Philly/Jersey? And if so were they taking peoples shit?
I heard at some festival they went up to some guy that was running his own tank and froze his face with it and killed him and they were never caught
Anyhow I couldn't believe how many tanks were in downtown Worcestor in broad daylight. Was easily the best lot I have ever been a part of as far as atmosphere and the crazy things I saw and was offered
Pretty sure that was Philly crew running shakedown after the first show. Didn't see any violence or taking non mafia tanks. That area was too small for any competition to set up without getting fucked with immediately. I was watching the muscle watch all the tanks and they looked like they had some ground and pound in them.
The whole nitrous game fascinates me now. The money to be made is certainly there. Dealing with that shit is a pretty grimey way to live, going to festivals and shows cracking everybody out til 8 am then moving to hotel rooms and setting up huffing hippy flop rooms.
The story about opening a tank on someone's face I feel is prob somewhat true but the story is like a hippy lot fable that everyone recites once the NM is mentioned.

Last year, a festivalgoer turned up dead at Gathering of the Vibes. Within days, the jam-band blogosphere lit up, hurling accusations at the Nitrous Mafia, with claims that the victim was beaten with a tank, sprayed with gas, and burned alive.
ive read the story and im sure there is some merit to the story. but things can get kind of blown up in the jamband circle of life world. it could all be true, i dont know
