been awake for over 40 hours

it's hot and humid as fuck here right now

the company put me in a hotel for the night with the other crew joining the ship since we didn't clear customs until after 1 AM

Looking to see those room pics. Exactly what is your daily routine? Curious is all.

On our way to Diego Garcia now. 7 days at sea, and then two weeks in Port. We are going through pirate country...the Malacca Straits.

The ship actually has razor wire lining the boat deck around the perimeter as a preventative measure.

Today is day 4 and I've been busting my ass.

It's a small crew of only 17 officers and crew, but I cook breakfast, lunch and dinner. I do have an 'assistant cook utility', but he just does dishes and maintains the salad bar. Ultimately I'm responsible for all meals and the cleanliness of the galley.

I would be posting more updates with pics, but the ships on board WiFi is spotty at best. This is the first time I've been able to access PFA from my phone in 2 days.

I have a bunch of pics I would post, but it would take forever to upload here.

When we get to Diego Garcia, I'll post another update and a ton of new pics.

Time to go, we have a fire and lifeboat drill in a few minutes.

Well I have two entrees for lunch and dinner, with veggies and a starch. I do some baking as well.

I make a homemade soup as well.

Yesterday I did up a killer tomato and pepper bisque with toasted garlic Parmesan croutons.

Today I made a nice cream of broccoli.

Last night we had roast turkey with natural gravy, and broiled yellowfin tuna with long grain wild rice.

Tonight I'm doing up a grilled black pepper shrimp over fettuccine... And a broiled NY steak with garlic mushrooms and onions with baked potatoes


Make a fudge cake that came out awesome too.

Did it take a while to get back into the swing of things? I know you did this before, but it was like 20 years ago. I made dinner with my gal for like 8 people last week and it was stressful as shit. Also, I am sure some stooge on board is eventually going to say "what the fuck is this crap". What do you say or do you just ignore it and go back to the kitchen?

To answer a few of the previous questions...

It's weird how comfortable it feels shipping again after so long. I guess it's like riding a bike. I pretty much fell back into a routine.

I'm shipping as a department head, so my only supervisor is the captain. The rest of the crew is very laid back and they gave me a warm welcome when I signed on. I've been getting a lot of compliments on my menu selection and quality of food, which feels pretty good. These guys aren't really picky eaters, but I wanted to make a solid first impression so I've been cranking out some great food.

Most of the crew is American but we have a couple guys in the deck department who are originally from Yemen.

As far as my pay goes, I'm on a monthly salary of a little over $4300.00, and get 6 hours a day of overtime at a rate of $31.50 an hour...and an additional 16 hours a week of weekend overtime at about $26.00 per hour.

My contract is for 120 days...then take 60 days off.

For each 30 days completed, after I sign off, I file for vacation pay which equals my daily wage x 16 at my daily pay regular rate...something like 140.00 per day

When all is said and done, I'm making about $11,500 per month give or take

Now that you are pulling serious monthly bank and cleared your head for a week, are you giving up that ridiculous idea when you get back in the States for a few months of burning through your stash in Mexico on Stars? Probably a good idea to just get a place and wait for the next ship and stash the cash and chase some middle aged women. Just sayin.

I agree with this. Stay the course. working will keep you out of trouble and you already did so much work to get there.
