Apparently, this shitstorm was caused by geolocation services connected to the servers in NJ, which has effected several sites in the state. This from a 2p2 user:
spew im having the same issues as you. have been here for a week and playing everyday with zero issue.....all of sudden yesterday im having geolocation issues. Have tried everything i can think of and/or been told to do by support (uninstall/reinstall, log in on different browsers and try to use play in browser, updated java, etc etc etc)...nothing fixes the problem. The most interesting part is that Im able to log in and sit down at a table on my mobile app, but on my desktop it doesnt work lol (makes sense)

Someone pls help!!! Have been on the line multiple times with borgata support last 24 hours and they are saying they have no idea of the problem and to wait another 1-2 days to allow them to figure it out. any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
From Party Poker NJ:

Last night we experienced a failure on our internal geolocation service which impacted all active players on our network, the failure resulted in the player locations not being verified. As a regulated provider in NJ, we had to adhere to the regulations and not permit wagering while a player’s location could not be verified. The technical support team worked tirelessly to identify the root cause and the issue was final resolved late in the evening.

Upon confirmation of the failure, we immediately began to proactively pause the events in order to prevent further adverse effects to players stacks. As we worked through isolating the issue at hand, the tournaments pause times were extended to guarantee the position for resuming the tournament . After a further extended period of time we had to make the decision to cancel all tournaments, as players had already been in limbo for well over an hour. It was in the best interest of the players to cancel due to the length of time and negative impact on affected player stacks.

At this time we will be settling the affected tournaments per our cancellation policy. This will award the full guaranteed prize money to the remaining players in the events. Players still in the tournament will be refunded the amount that would have been awarded to the next player to be eliminated from the tournament. 50% of the remaining prize pool will be distributed equally between the remaining players, and 50% will be distributed on a percentage basis according to each player's chip count. The remaining players will also be refunded their entry fee.

We sincerely apologize for issue face during GSSS V and we greatly appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our players.
What amazing fail; its goes to show that online poker in the US has a long way to go.
