Question. I have been playing poker for about 3 years now .. (home games , online..etc) . I am BY NO MEANS A PRO. but really want to be. i have a chance to play in a hpt event weekend after next about 4 hrs from my house.... Something i should tell you is i have never played live ( with the exception of the same 6-9 people at home games) . there is a 70 dollar satellite tourney ( wed and sat) that i was thinking of entering. Now here is my question. I don't know ANYTHING about the HPT poker tour other than their website. the Only reason I was considering this event is because it is close, there is a chance, and i can afford it. PLEASE don't give me any bullshit about this. I Know EVERY person on this forum is a better player than i am. BUT EVERYONE started somewhere.

BY THE WAY i should note that this is the CLOSEST casino i can go to that has a poker room.

ANY advice is welcomed and appreciated!

HPT is actually a great event... The structure used to be brutal but they adjusted to an Allen Kessler type structure. The events are televised and decently produced... The fields are insanely soft and the big name pros don't really go to them because they are in obscure locations... The only name players I can think of that have won HPT tournaments are Will Fialla, VeeRob and Dean Hammrick (The kid with the perma crutches who bubbled the ME final table a long time ago). I think it is a perfect tournament for you to jump in to.

yeah they have good blind structures and pretty week fields and for 70$ you cant go wrong.Its a good start to playing more live tournys.

So did you end up playing any of the satellites? Thinking of playing this wednesday or saturday .

I plan on playing saturday in alb. if work schedule permits if not it will probally be next sat
