TJ Cloutier would take small loans from people, and they would give it to him because they assumed he was a rich, successful poker player and could easily pay back. Then he would go lose it at the craps table and not pay back.
He was also known for selling more than 100% of himself in events, and then purposely losing.
I watched him do this at my table in 2006 at a WSOP event, and I was the fortunate beneficiary of his chips. I think I finished 39th in that one.
