    Portlandia's Feminist Book Store

    http://www.avclub.com/article/portla...rtlandi-243359

I like the show, but it can be kinda dingy at times. If that's how they were treating the filming location (the article claims they left it a mess and the stipend the store got didn't cover the revenue it lost by closing for filming) then ok, fuck them.

    but....

    the SJW comes out.

the real reason why? Fred Arminsen in a dress is offending all the trans people.

    The Show Sucks

The Women and Women First segments that are filmed at In Other Words are trans-antagonistic and trans-misogynist and have only become more offensive as the show goes on. ‘LOL Fred Armisen in a wig and a dress’ is a deeply shitty joke whose sole punchline throws trans femmes under the bus by holding up their gender presentation for mockery and ridicule. In a world where trans femmes – particularly Black trans women – are being brutalized and murdered on a regular basis for simply daring to exist, dude in a dress jokes are lazy, reactionary, and actively harmful. They’re also just straight up not funny.

Also: there are no Black people on Portlandia. There are a tiny number of people of color on Portlandia. Portland is white but it’s not that damn white. It’s also a city with a deeply entrenched history of racism and white supremacy. In Other Words is in the heart of a historically Black neighborhood in Northeast Portland. We have Black Lives Matter written on our window. Black Lives Matter Portland meets regularly in our space. But as more and more Black folks and people of color have become involved at In Other Words, Portlandia has only gotten steadfastly more white. Oh and also: the last time the show filmed in our space, the production crew asked to us to remove the Black Lives Matter sign on our window. We refused.

    sooooooooooooooooo

it's ok to joke, as long as it's not about transgendered people. GMAFB. it's comedy. sometimes it's offensive. But they let this shit go on for 6 seasons. And now that it's not cool anymore to do it, they're 86'n the entire thing.

Ironic a show created by a pair of left wing Hollywood retards like Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein is being hammered by their fellow left wing assholes.. Poetic justice for that pair of mouthy selfrighteous liberal gasbags.

the thing is, all the points they are making are totally on the money.

whats more, fred armisen's latest career choices lend a lot of weight to the assertion that hes totally ran out of funny and is simply looking to piss people off for paychecks.

also that show is virtually never funny. i think there is a solid 10 minutes of footage in its catalog where i was like 'huh thats pretty good' and the rest is just kids in the hall throwaway caliber drek.

The entire city here at best generally dislikes the show, at worst are downright homicidal towards them now. I stopped watching after the first season, I agree with Sonatine's description there....I've been describing it as "rejected SNL bits 90% of the time"

I honestly think their entire premise for the show was that very first bit they did.....and then "eh we'll wing it afterwards". Portlandia should have simply been only that bit, which was good.

The only skits I really remember enjoying (outside of that first one i posted there) were the ones with Kyle Maclachlan playing the mayor, and Sam Adams (the real mayor at the time) playing the mayors assistant.

Ironically though, while seemingly everyone hates the show here, everyone I know who has ever run into Brownstein (who lives here) or Armisen say they are both super nice and friendly people.

Armisen apparently has unbelievably huge issues with women in general, but yeah Carrie is apparently a mensch and an overall joy to be around.
