Broke poker player looking for new opportunities....

We've all been there. Now it's my turn I guess. At some point this game will pass everyone by...

I refuse to retire from the game because it is something I enjoy, but no longer will I be seeking to play professionally or even semi-professionally. From this point forward I will be forever known as a casual or as the kids are saying these days, "fun" player. This is a sad day for all I'm afraid.

To the point of my post, I'm wondering what anyone who has gone thru this time previous to me, what you have found to be an easy transition from this career, besides serial owl rapist. fuck u chaps

Pls, if anyone has any advice, feel free to pass it on. Also I am offering a cash reward ($10 donation to the freeroll if it ever runs again, each week for 6 months) if any piece of advice or pointers in the right direction immediately lead to me landing a job that pays $20/hr+ with benefits cuz I'm not a Mexican and can't get them for free.

    Thank you.

Didn't OSA already make this thread? Well in fairness you compiled it into 1 thread, so that's a start.

Didn't really give us much to go on... degree, previous work experience, how much are you looking to work, any technical skills?

Thanks for your reply handicapme, I've always liked u.

I have no degree, no technical skills worth speaking on. I've always been a hardworker and will do anything besides suck dick for good money. I have enough things in my personal life to keep me happy that a so called fulfilling career simply equals one that pays well.

I know there are a lot of smart people on this forum, so I was basically hoping for someone to be able to point me to a career path which pays well and doesn't require a degree or experience. And before you guys think I'm retarded or something, I know that these jobs are rare but I also know they exist. Just well kept secrets

    Let me get this right....

    A. You have no degree, no technical skills worth speaking on.

    B. You want a $20+ an hour job with benefits

Lol get used to asking "You want fries with that?"

I'm not sure this is the best venue for advice, but at least list your age and level of education. And it might help to list some things you are interested in. It might be possible to go to a technical school and learn a trade within a couple of years and get the kind of money you are looking for, if you have a particular aptitude for a trade. But that means likely being a general laborer at 10-12 with limited benefits while you get some kind of certification. Even then, you are probably looking at starting around $15 per hour and limited bennies. You'll need to put some years in before you make $20.

Without skills or education, the only jobs I know at $20+ and benefits is UAW or comparable union jobs, which are highly sought after and it helps to have connections. Even in the UAW, you aren't going to be at $20 for a few years.

I don't know what the wages are like but guessing you could earn that kind of money as a card dealer. It's something I considered when I stopped playing poker as there's plenty of them jobs going and they favor people who know poker, but couldn't bring myself to going from being the player to sitting there on the other side of the table as a dealer.

Like yourself I also don't have a degree or much relevant experience to get a high paying job, so have had to take whatever I could get in the retail and sales sector. Currently am working in a betting shop which is the best job I've ever had: take bets over the counter and chat with the regulars, get to watch whatever football games are on the screens in the shop, and the menial tasks that need doing are piss easy.

Best option is to get a government job. You can have no skills, and I think being incompetent is actually a prerequisite to being hired. It is also nearly impossible to be fired.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...atchdog-finds/

This is just the latest example of how the government spends your money on worthless employees.

Thanks guys for the positive replies. Becoming a dealer is definitely something I have considered. It would be an easy transition for me, but as reggaymer said I'm not sure if I could be on the other side of the table and be ok with it. However it is something that I will continue to think on. The betting shop gig sounds pretty sweet. I've always found career gamblers to be the most interesting people. I've considered selling my car (09 Nissan Altima) and taking the 5-6k I think I could get and just bumming it at the casino hoping to make it stick. I currently get 2 free rooms a week, as does my girlfriend.

I've never been interested in traditional jobs, only making money. You guys have been helpful and I appreciate those who have responded.

Do you ever see that fat fuck wesrwood aka Matt C.?

If you see him tell him Hockey Guy says Fuck Off. Of course he might think you're me & start swinging so go ahead & knock him the fuck out.

    TY.

Back on topic, cmoney give some good advice. Start scouring for govt. jobs. US postal service is always hiring I would think. Tough job to get I would imagine.

It doesn't seem like you're ready to give poker up, you said you loved it. When I gave up poker as a part time player it was because I hated the game and had for a while.

If I'm thinking of the right fatfuck I believe I played w him once. He came to our 1/2 game complaining of a couple bad beats at 5/10 (lol) and proceeded to shove blind every hand. Doubled up twice and racked up. 10/10 would love to knock that pussy on his fat fucking ass

That's tough man... kinda in a tough spot here.

    1. Get a CDL lin or start working for a company who will train and sponsor you.
    2. Try and get a govie job like cmoney said, maybe police exam or just regular dmv/post office shit.
    3. Maybe try ups/FedEx etc? Uber driver/normal cab company if you're in a populated city?

For what you're looking for it's gunna be tough without any background. Benefits wont be there unless you join a union, but finding a job like that and not bringing much to the table will be tough. Goodluck man, but thise 3 things above could be your best bet. Also, while not part of my list, poker dealer could work out... you uear tons of stories about dealers going to the wsop and working like dogs, but making like 15k in a summer... which for the skill set needed to be a dealer is not half bad.
