PKR cancelling tournaments midway and not compensating according to policy

I played a $30 re buy tournament on monday 1st april at pkr, it was part of a promo series they'd been running called springfest. So I stack up to 35k from my 3k starting stack and was near the money bubble when all of a sudden the tournament disappears and it's no longer to be seen in the lobby either. I get an email stating that due to technical issues they had to cancel it and that i'd be payed according to their stack to prizepool ratio policy. At this point i'm ofcourse fuming as i'd spent the best part of 4 hours getting to that point. It turned out that the tech problem was that the rebuy period never ended and people were still rebuying for like 1.5bb near the money so thats when they hit the panic button and cancelled.

And so they say it will all be resolved by wednesday but it wasn't until today, thursday 4th, that they have issued out payments. And it turns out they have taken an unprecedented step as they haven't used their policy on this case, instead they've made up a new one. They say that they've refunded the players who rebought after the rebuy period was supposed to end (even the ones who left and weren't still in), and paid everyone who was still in according to what their stack was when the tournament was supposed to be cancelled (at the end of level 6 when rebuys were supposed to stop). So i've ended up getting paid according to my 9k stack instead of my 35k stack. And another thing, they still raked it.

^ that is the thread where the players and pkr staff have been corresponding, but they've been deleting my posts now because i've mentioned this site and twoplustwo.

Any thoughts on this mess going on at pkr right now?

    What a mess, indeed.

So let me see if I have this straight:

    1) PKR had a bug in their software that allowed people to keep rebuying throughout the entire tournament, allowing busted users to "rebuy" for tiny stacks if they busted right before the money.

    2) They abruptly canceled the tournament because of this, just before everyone cashed.

    3) They rolled back everyone's stack to the end of level 6 (when the rebuy period was supposed to be over), and paid them according to what their stack was at that point.

    4) You had not unfairly rebought after level 6, and you had legitimately rolled up 35k in chips by the time it was canceled, which would have given you a much bigger piece of the prizepool than your 9k stack would have at level 6.

The problem is that there is no easy solution to this.

I can see why you are pissed, as you played poker normally, accumulated a big stack, and were screwed over by a software error that forced them to cancel the tournament.

But there are a lot of complications here.

A lot of extra chips were in play that shouldn't have been. A lot of people were in the tournament that should have been out, and those people may have busted other legitimate players with their ill-gotten rebuys. You were lucky enough to benefit from the situation (because you ran well or played well, or perhaps both), but others were actually KNOCKED OUT by people who rebought after level 6. Think of how they must have felt!

Therefore, they cannot simply go by the "usual policy" of paying people according to their stacks.

The only fair way to handle this was to pretend that nothing after level 6 (the last level which wasn't affected by the bogus rebuys) existed.

However, at the same time, this was a pretty egregious software error, and it's unfair to people like you to simply lose out on what you legitimately won.

I think the best solution would be to do what they already did PLUS give some sort of extra payout to those who accumulated big stacks and did not rebuy after level 6.

That would show some respect to the affected chip leaders, while still fairly compensating everyone else.

Yes I think you've hit the nail on the head there dan. It's like why should I and the other people who stacked up after level 6 be punished for an error made by pkr? And I agree with your solution to compensation but as they've already made their decision and measly payments i'm not sure if they will retract that decision now.

pkr is a site that will soon cease to exist if it carries on the way it has been. I get what you're saying though, their market share is so insignificant that not many will care. I just thought i'd put it out there for the benefit of people that may have on the off chance considered depositing there.

Googled PKR. It looked more like a video game than a poker site. I think the emoting sounds LOL. Would be interested to hear more about it.

PKR is a graphics-rich poker client. They focus on the "real game" experience, e.g. you can do character actions, peek at your cards etc. The main problem with the concept is that is slows the game down and multi-tabling is more akward.

The problem with site is it is a tumbleweed operation.

They haven't taken US players since 2006 but have advertised in the UK quite a bit but not much recently.

Yes, so it it turns out they did refund the rake after all. So not all bad.

Heres some fun karma (if u believe in that kind of thing). I had like 90 bucks left in my acc, plus the 90 they payed me so had a look at their sports bet section and punted it on a few horses for grand national and auroras encore came in at 94/1 for an 1880 return so basically 10x my money there. Which is funny as i had 10x starting stack when they cancelled. Turns out there was a fairy tale ending to this story, for me.

i take it ur shaneglsd ?

they fked this 1 up big time danski (dan grant) the main link between the players and the site pretty much said it.
of course ur pissed rightly so.

the site is a 3d job were u can buy the table drinks n shit for ur points lol. and emote to others

the site had to split up with the french italians and others not allowed to play on the uk site. that brought the traffic down a bit.
i played there for 3 yrs till they decided to add 2% to every tournie buyin and use it in the members level freerolls
yep they charged 2% on every tournie and used it to fund the freerolls.

its a decent site run by really good guys i dont think its going anywhe

that pony came in at 66/1

    PKR have now gone busto

    https://calvinayre.com/2017/05/05/po...-difficulties/

When I heard about that it reminded me of the episode I had there and how it led me to making my first post here.

At the time I had only heard of PFA and was under the impression that it was some kind of authority within poker that dealt with scams. It was only later on that I found out it was in fact just a bi-product of the old NWP community, and essentially a forum full of trolls.

Four years later and I'm still here bitches!

    Wow.

PKR was the shit back in the day. It had it's own live tourney series and was probably the first to have a dedicated Youtube channel. It was also all over the Poker Channel. It was easily the softest site for tourneys as well.

I last played on there maybe 6 months ago. I did not know they had moved to Microgaming and were sharing the pool with them. As soon as I busted the roll, there was no sense in playing on there anymore because I am regged with Grovsner Casino who also use Microgaming. I figured they would go DD eventually, but I had emails as recent as last month from their marketing offering me 150% instant bonus on their Casino.
