Bovada freezes account I've had since 2005 with 52k in it for "verification"

There is absolutely no reason for this.

I've used this account since 2005, with tons of deposits and cashouts (way more cashouts, obv), and suddenly they need to "verify" me?

This comes on the heels of me winning a lot on their sportsbook in July.

I swear... if this is some bullshit way to close my account and steal my money, I will create WWIII over this.

Still hoping this is a "misunderstanding".

To have this occur when I have 52k in the account is especially offensive.

It's the government Run!! Seriously though, did you call and ask why this happened? This is probably a way for Bovada to avoid a lot of big pay outs at once.

On the phone with them now.

Was fortunate to reach their Montreal office (the one with actual power).

I was told to send in my ID and "wait 48 hours" for it to be verified.

    Yeah right.

I said I would send the ID and they could verify it while I waited on hold.

They told me that "everyone has to wait their turn in the e-mail queue".

On hold right now as they "look into" my request to talk about this immediately.

    I am so pissed.

It's a standard practice for them to want you to send in ID proof every few years and I'm surprised they haven't asked this of you before.

I know it sucks but just send them the ID and be done with it.

They will not give me a reason other than "verification" at withdrawal.

I did request a BTC withdrawal yesterday, which could in theory have been sent to someone else if my account were hacked (and they'd have no recourse), but I've made 3 successful BTC withdrawals for the same amount months ago, so I don't see why they are suddenly panicking now over the same thing (and it's just 1 withdrawal, not 3).

Still makes no sense why they would SUSPEND my account while waiting to resolve this.

Now they are also demanding a utility bill proving my address, which I also just sent them.

I'm probably not getting resolution today, but we shall see.

I'm on the fence about this. It could be some idiotic paranoid security feature regarding BTC withdrawals, or it's something more sinister.

    We will see soon.

They have asked before, and I've sent it.

For some reason they are panicking enough to both demand it again, demand a utility bill, AND freeze my account while it's being done.

This is something non-standard. I guess I'll find out soon what it was. Or maybe I won't.

I just put a lot of pressure on the Montreal office to resolve this in an expedited fashion, and they promised they will do their best.

As I said, we shall see.

Seems like too much of a coincidence for it to be just a "routine" verification.

Sounds like step 2 on the checklist for "Guy was winning too much, start trolling him"

This seems pretty minor, I had to send same stuff in after cashing out after they changed from Bodog to Bovada. If you have not done it recently I don't see why you think it is a big deal .

It could be a lot of things and a low level support person won't be able to help with anything. Those people likely don't have a clue what is going on with your account but if you get a hold of a supervisor (difficult to do at times) they might be able to help more. Usually it takes time and pressuring them everyday they take to get this corrected.

Hopefully when it's squared up they will be able to say that their was a potential security breach or whatever it might be.

With the site being pounded by ddos attacks perhaps they are adding more security features. The site could be hating the fact they added bitcoin in the first place because a lot of these ddos attackers are huge bitcoin nerds that want to extort money that way.

Druff I hope this situation gets handled quickly.

But the amount of lulz with you burning down a village if they closed your account, could provide some of the most epic lulz this community has ever seen.

I mean it would crush Druff exposing Skatz

So what I am saying is 5% of me is rooting for temporary account closure.

Something as simple as logging on from different locations or computers can prompt a site to ask again for ID.

A more important question is how do you end up with 52k in a shady online gaming site in 2016?

Like why would you ever keep more than 20k, especially with BTC transfers? Is the 30/60 game really that swingy?

30/60 is a swingy game on Bovada for sure. Druff don't need 52k imo for it but keeping 30-35k on there seems good for how wild it can get versus the Bodonks.

Taking money out you risk losing in the BTC market. Circle is great for sending your money from blockchain to it because you will make money due to them having a higher rate per coin but then you will lose that amount back if you send from circle to blockchain to Bovada.

What you can do on Circle is convert BTC to dollars and not transfer to your bank but instead let it sit there with no fluctuation down (or up) then buy whatever you want (ship it back to blockchain to bovada or anywhere else) if necessary. You would, of course lose the profit gained by cashing out bovada to blockchain to circle by sending it back from your circle to blockchain to bovada.

    cliffs:

Druff doesn't heed his own advice and leaves over 50k on Bovada.

Online poker is illegal in the US, and Bovada is an illegal poker site.

Online Poker site is being shady and holding his 50k+ hostage

Druff claims hes going to start www3.1 if they don't release his funds, which are illegal in the first place.

    Did i get this right?

I guess it's back to grinding the commerce now huh. Welcome to the real world. 'Twas fun while it lasted.

    edit:

oh yeah, and since this is all illegal anyway....WHY IN THE FUCK would you talk about it publicly. really. common sense tells me that if i were you, id be quiet. Because when the IRS comes knocking, they'll have all of this for you in a nice little readwell.

I have no problem with the ID requests.

The freezing my account after 11-12 years in good standing is what's really odd to me.

Something clearly spooked them (or they are trying to find an excuse to either steal from me or kick me off -- or both!)

I have to admit I am nervous about this. This is a lot of money.

    Account is back open.

I just talked to the "financial team" in the Philippines.

They had an issue with my supposed "abuse of the bonus".

I deposited bitcoin, got the 20% bonus, and then withdrew other available funds that I had BEFORE the deposit (which I could have withdrawn at any point beforehand). I made sure this was okay with them beforehand by calling in and asking if I could do this, and they said yes.

But apparently that's not allowed, and my account got suspended.

They admitted that I was likely given the wrong info on the phone.

After I agreed not to do this again, they reopened my account. They would not be specific with how much money was "too much" to have before depositing additional funds, but they said that the amount I had before the deposits ($46k) was "way too much". They would not elaborate.

I did explain to them that I might deposit if down to something like $10k-$15k, due to the heavy swings at 30-60 and how I like to play comfortably rolled. They said I could, but it was left ambiguous if I could redeem any kind of running bonus if I were to do so. I guess I'll have to cross that bridge if this ever happens, and get someone in authority to rule on it at the time. I did promise that I would never deposit again if my account was sitting above $30k.

    Whatever.

At least my account is back open, my withdrawal is being processed, and Bovada apparently isn't stealing my money.

to some people, (those of us without utility bills of any kind, who travel and live out of motels, theres no way we can do this). im still not sure what to do to move to NJ and play poker on stars. so far bovada hasnt asked me this in the last few yrs since they did about 10 yrs ago and at the time, my bank statement worked in lieu of utility bills. this was when i used to need an address to get checks instead of bitcoin.

this being said u losing the $52000 wouldnt affect u as much as me losing $500. it wouldnt make u unable to live indoors.

Hey Tony... didn't realize you were on this forum. Still would like to have you on radio sometime.

I also am annoyed by the "utility bill" request. Many people cannot produce utility bills in their name -- such as ones who live with their parents, those who live in extended-stay motels, or ones whose bills are in the name of a family member or roommate. Fortunately I was able to produce such a bill, but not everyone can.

Moving to play online poker is not an option for me because I have a family. Also, I don't believe any of the "legal" sites provide the limit holdem games I play.

most utilities will also let you DL a statement online. Once you do that, it is trivially easy to make the name and address whatever you want in the exact font needed. unless they are actually calling the utility, easy peasy japaneasy.
