A Player in the WPT 500 field, Matthew Hauge, dies unexpectedly on Sunday night

Damn, RIP. He was pretty young, too. 26. He was found at the Rio dead.

Rumors from 2p2 state possibly due to an overdose after he met a girl at the Rio and she wasn't in the room the next day and his valuables were gone. He was not one to be known to take drugs and may of been a victim of a "trick roll".

Before play began today, WPT Commentator Mike Sexton addressed the field with some sad news —

Matthew Hauge, who played on Day 1B and made it thru to Day 2 with 122,000 in chips, passed away unexpectedly late Sunday night. Sexton then led the field in a moment of silence in memory of Hauge.
Following the standard tournament rules, Hauge’s chips were left in play, slowly blinded out hand by hand.

At the start of the day, Hauge’s stack of 122,000 was worth 15 big blinds. But as the blinds went up and Hauge’s stack went down, other players busted quickly enough that Hauge’s stack survived two pay-jumps (at 165 players and 140 players) to finish in 136th place, earning $2,500.
Arrangements are being made to deliver his earning to Hauge’s family.

Most interesting is the claim that the mysterious girl drugged/killed this guy and stole from him.

Could easily be a spiked drink . This happens a ton in Vegas, but out of shame, you don't hear many of the stories . Usually what happens is you wake up, your shit is gone , and you have a hangover like you never experienced before . The drugs they spike depress breathing so could easily kill by itself in high doses or mixed with something else . Never ever invite a black chick to your room , and if you invite any females up , have everything locked up . Never trust any females you have. Just met in Vegas

"Sounds like preexisting medical condition....the chick checks out, nothing was taken/stolen...she was def not a hooker, she did have a Bf - came back to rio after she heard something bad happened to matt"

All this info came from Ben (Matt's brother) who received the info from 2 detectives. They just wanted it to be clear that he didn't get rolled by a hooker.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully this is true and he wasn't murdered. Still tragic when a 26-year-old abruptly dies like this, but it's much worse if he was senselessly murdered than suffered a death due to existing health problems.

It is surprising how many young poker players seem to be dying from health issues. We even had one in our community (Justin Shronk aka es0terix).

Kevin Boudreau almost died from that aneurysm, but fortunately recovered somewhat and is even playing in the WSOP again.

A chicken drugged my buddy in Vegas 2 years ago and got him for a thousand bucks or so, it happens

Apparently, this dude won a WSOPC seat for $10k....and the WSOPC have rescinded this seat.



Casinos in the past have allowed a switching of players for extreme circumstances. I know of one where an Australian woman was 8 mths preggo and was in a $1500 tourney with 27 players left at the Crown in Melbourne. She went to bed that night, and her water broke. The casino and players (after allowed to vote on objection) agreed to let her husband continue playing out her stack in the tournament when play resumed the next day.

In any case, the family should of at least got the money, if not let a family member/friend play in place of him.
