To be fair, the population in the Vegas area is not 600k.

Much of the area right by the strip is considered unincorporated Clark County!

The population in Vegas actually isn't very spread out. Barring awful traffic, anyone can get to the strip in 30 minutes or less.

Compare that to a place like greater Los Angeles, where some parts are more than 100 miles from others.

However, I think one problem with sports in Vegas is that relatively few people have roots in Vegas, and thus they are less likely to support a Vegas sports team.

Most Vegas residents are already fans of another team from where they previously lived.

I can see it now on the Billboard... "One night only Crosby and Malkin!!" Nhl will do great in vegas... it makes perfect sense if you really break it down. After all its just a big show guys... music, lights, action.. non sports fans will enjoy a night at the arena aswell.

You are kind of on to something. You have to be careful with the marketing though. You cant expect people to love your home team, if all you ever do is promote the opponent's greatness.

it's amazing that they can get potential investors/owners to write a 500 mil check just to enter the league. and then they still had other requirements.

vegas already pre sold 13/14k of the arenas 17k seats....i think NHL hockey will do fine here.

Vegas will do great with Hockey. I can see casinos giving out comps to box seats. If the casinos are backing this venture they will make it work.

The team is now officially the "Vegas Desert Knights"

The logo is cool but I think the team name is meh. Too much like the LA Kings

The twitter is correct. The name will be the Golden Knights not the Desert Knights.

The NHL did not request for Golden Knights games to be removed from Nevada's legal sportsbooks

Something to do with the desert would be cool. Vegas Golden Knights is the worst name I've ever heard lol

That said, I find it hard to believe that NHL would fail in Vegas, fanbase or no fanbase.

This shit is unchartered waters for everybody. We all know Vegas is the ultimate tourist destination but whether that translates to long term success or not is the question.

Negreanu thinks the entire population of Las Vegas is rich poker players from Canada who love hockey! Yeah watch when 5k people are showing up to a game, if that.

The reality is it is a tiny city population wise of about 600k with a "fanbase" that is starting from scratch. Where the fuck are these people coming from?

Never had a team, don't have a stable group of local fans to start from, it is building it from the ground up. Good fucking luck.

Complete failure will be coming soon to a strip near you.
Knights are in 2nd place in the Pacific Division a little over 1/4 into the season and led the div. for a short time.

As others pointed out population #s for Vegas don't reflect reality. City of LV is small area, must look at Clark County #s. Add in a lot of unincorporated area like the Strip, Summerlin, Centennial Hills, Spring Valley, Rhodes Ranch, Silverado Ranch, City of Henderson and North LV. If visitors don't go to a downtown casino they most likely never enter Las Vegas, just like many locals.

Games are getting good attendance. Locals are eager for a real team to get behind and are accustomed to paying to see a good show fairly often. All the bands and dj's passing through or doing a residency have locals that show up on the regular. We're entertainment consumers as well as producers.

Team management is opening the Summerlin practice facility to all sorts of fun activities on the ice for youngsters. Bill Foley's community outreach is excellent. Knights U just opened, 5 sessions of strategy, skate on T-Mobile ice before class. $495 includes a meal and ticket to a game.

And hockey is another reason for Ducks and LA Kings fans to drive up for a game and a good meal. Of course fans across North America can fly in, support their team, leave the snow and cold, have some fun. What's not to like? I'm very pleased that Vegas has a quality pro hockey team.

Going to Vegas in December and want to see the Golden Knights vs. Rangers on December 8. I'm finding that tickets on the secondary market are pretty expensive for a regular season game. Any tips on getting cheap seats? (or anyone want to sell me a pair of lower bowl seats)?
