Dash cams are kind of a pain in the ass for a number of reasons. It would seem relatively easy ( and a good up sell) to put cameras in at the factory level. You would never need to worry about the "cops story versus yours" and would have evidence in the event of an accident.

this, and that in the event the camera doesn't work, it's one more thing that a dealership would have to replace, on all warrantied vehicles. they probably don't see a profit incentive.

Frankly I'm shocked the car insurance companies haven't demanded this.
On a related note...
If law enforcement was so concerned about drunk driving they would mandate car manufacturers to install breath devices in every single fucking automobile manufactured in this country so you couldn't start your car without blowing into a device proving that you were under the limit
It's a pretty simple fix
Every single car sold in the United States has a breath device that prohibits the driver from starting his or her vehicle if they blow over the legal DUI limit
Oh but wait
That approach pretty much shuts down every single Municipal Police Department in the fucking country because they won't know where to gather their revenue outside of chickenshit DUI arrests
