Druff,
Just deposited cash in my friends account because he couldn't afford to pay his bookie. And I was shocked when the teller asked for my ID. She said it is a new policy as of Dec 2015. Posting this because it was discussed on the radio show.

I've had a few people put cash in my B of A account. I don't know if they were asked for ID or not.
I don't believe Wells Fargo does it, though.
I was asked for id when I tried to deposit cash in someones account
you are flagged. I've been sending money back and fourth w/ BA for awhile. no trouble.
no shit? flagged?

The account he deposited to is more likely flagged because of suspicion of it being used to launder money. But these competing hypotheses can be tested by the OP depositing some money in an account of a PFA member (he trusts to return it) who hasn't had such a requirement for people depositing to their account.
try googling about id required when depositing cash before going on tilt
if you do you'll see that it is an anti cash funneling & money laundering measure banks are enacting in response to pressure from regulators and Homeland Security.

Chase in Arizona doesn't allow deposits on anyone else's account from a non customer, period. They told me the only exception is when you deposit a Chase certified cashiers check, which you can't buy if you are not an account holder.
Pretty sure it has something to do with Mexico/paying off coyotes.
Only bank here I know of that doesn't allow it.
Just did Wellsfargo this morning in NY, they requested 2 forms of ID... chase will 100% not allow it, but they have chase quick pay which is thier version of paypal and will tell you to use that instead.
Why are you people still interacting with POS Tellers? Go to the ATM, put cash in envelope, fill out said envelope and fuck off outta there. No lines, no dipshit clerks, problem solved.
If it's a normal every day transaction I think it's fine, but when you are sending money for a stake or whatever I'm going to have a clear record of the deposit and exactly how it was made. Maybe I'm over thinking things, but I want to have 0 doubt that I didn't complete the transaction on my end perfectly.
Take Todd's recent bitcoin scammer situation... had the kid done exactly what Todd had asked for and deposited the funds in cash and shown a clear record of it, there is no way he could have gotten scammed. However, since he didn't and had done what you suggested (overnight atm deposit) Todd could have gotten fucked.
I agree tellers are pretty much useless, but if I can get some certainty regarding a transaction on my end by using them... then fuck it ima use them.

If the deposit is over $10,000 cash they have to ask for ID under federal law. For amounts under $10k, my experience has been that if you have a pre-printed deposit slip (like from the back of your checkbook), the tellers won't ask for an ID, but maybe that has changed.
