Alan Young aka Wilbur from Mr ED is Donkdown

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Alan Young, who played straight man to a talking horse in the 1960s sitcom "Mister Ed," has died.

Jaime Larkin, a spokeswoman for the Motion Picture and Television Home in Los Angeles, says that Young died Thursday. He was 96.

"Mister Ed" premiered in 1961 and ran for four seasons. It was one of a rash of sitcoms in that era with elements of fantasy that included a visiting Martian, a witch married to a mortal and a talking car.

Young was already a well-known radio and TV comedian when he landed the role. He supposedly got the part after someone said he "looks like the kind of guy a horse would talk to."

i'm 30. so when I grew up, Nickelodeon still went off the air around 8 pm and turned into Nick At Nite. maybe in the early to mid 90's they had this in the rotation along with Get Smart (don adams RIP) green acers, i love lucy dick van dyke etc etc.

now a days it's TV land, it's all the same bullshit, and if you want good shows like that you have to turn to MeTv or whatever local station is broadcasting that shit. TV land doesn't do it anymore, and Nick At Nite died 10+ years ago.

man how tv has changed. And i'm not even that old and i've seen it change so much. i can only imagine how my parents feel (they're approaching 60). shit they dont even use HD tv with their HD tvs

Absolutely fascinating that the public found this anything but insulting. A talking horse.

Another show was, "My Mother the Car". Bewitched.

Was the public back then really such simpletons?

Go watch Mad Men. "Fill airtime, sell soap".

    Got it?
