Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs

    http://feature.rollingstone.com/100-...hip-hop-songs/

It's a pretty great list, obviously trending to mainstream hits because it's Rolling Stone. Their date cutoff was right about when I stopped listening to new hip hop, so that works for me.

Top 2 are just easy, safe picks that are hard to argue with. I love Afrika Bambaattaa at #3. Geto Boys are way too high at #5. 6 through 11 are some of my favorite rappers. Really glad to see Slick Rick getting respect at #13.

The thing that impressed me most is that Nas only got spots 31 and 81. Illmatic might be the most overrated album in hip hop. They put him on par with Missy Elliot. I love Missy, but she's not in that top group with fucking Eric B & Rakim and Public Enemy.

Maybe MAYBE you can point at It Takes A Nation of Millions and somehow argue that its more important but for artistry it cant hoist Illmatic's jock strap.

I knew I wouldn't agree with the list just because stylistically I listen to a lot more underground stuff.

Geto Boys had a few great songs that are Top 100 worthy. I'm surprised not to see any Master P or 2 Live Crew on that list. Each of them deserve at least a song if they are going to load it up with Kanye and Jay-Z stuff.

At least '93 til Infinity made the list tho cause that is a great song. Another great song they missed but not I'm not surprised is this:

South Bronx on the list instead of The Bridge is Over.

I'm not even going to read it. They put shit in there out of order just to piss people off. Sells more magazines that way.

"Dear Mama" only being 2 spots ahead of "in da club" tells you everything you need to know about this list.

Wow they really shit on Tupac. And then they try to say his best fucking song was Dear Momma. Dear Momma was the song you skipped over on that album. No notorious thugs. No 2 of America's most wanted. Bone at 96? Missy on there multiple times. Get real.

    Major Issue

Doug E Fresh THE SHOW should have been in top 10. That had to be an inspiration to so many of the people on that list. They were all kids when that came out and they must have had that playing every day.

    Minor Issue
