The Maloof family only owned 2% of the Palms Casino. It was mostly owned by TPG Capital (49%) and Leonard Green & Partners LP (49%).

Station Casinos own 20 different locals-oriented casinos, mostly based in the Las Vegas area. This also includes the nicer Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch properties.

Palms was a hotspot and popular with young people in the '90s and '00s, but it struggled in the 2010s as the Cosmopolitan basically replaced them as the hip, young casino. It also struggled somewhat because of its off-strip location, as it's west of the strip on Flamingo, a little bit west of the Rio.

In 2013, the Palms paid a $1 million fine due to rampant drug sales and prostitution at its nightclubs. In a "life imitates art" moment, this followed a 2012 prank call on PokerFraudAlert Radio, where Colonel Nigel Fabersham called the property and made these exact complaints.
