I'm not seeing what the negative response (from non-retards) is about. Maddow tweeted that she received Trump's 2005 1040. I didn't really look, but I didn't see anyone at MSNBC claiming that it was a bombshell or that Trump was done. She then showed Trump's 2005 1040. Getting information and then reporting on it is sort of how journalism is supposed to work.

Everyone is missing a much more important point. In January 2016, Trump said he was going to release all of his tax forms, like every other Presidential candidate for the past 50 years. Then a few weeks later, he claimed that he *couldn't* release any of his tax forms because they were being audited- while providing no evidence that was the case. Then Maddow tweets that she's going to show off Trump's 2005 1040, and within an hour or two, the white house released Trump's 2005 1040 to try and hurt her ratings. Clearly they are capable of releasing anything they want on a moment's notice. Why can't we see the rest of the docs, including where his income was coming from and who he owes debts to? Crooked Hillary Clinton released those going back 25 years.

the issue is that maddow originally just said she has "trump's tax returns," and then added "seriously" to the end of her tweet, which did imply somewhat of a bombshell. she didn't mention they were from 2005 until later. i'm sure she knew that people would assume she was referring to more recent ones.

not only that, but did rachel realize these tax returns would 100% help trump? i'm not saying she shouldn't report helpful stories about him, but you get the sense that she thought these would somehow be damaging.

in reality, they were anything but. even cnbc and cnn acknowledged this. they showed trump earned $150 million (i.e., he's not broke and is very successful) and paid $36 million in taxes (i.e., a ton). my favorite part of the segment was when the guy she had on talking about the 1040 said something like "regular people like us" can't do this, when rachel makes like $7 million a year. i cringed a bit on that one.

i don't want to go full alex jones on this, but if i was going to, i'd believe that trump released these himself and did so to change the media narrative away from the healthcare debacle that was dominating the news cycle.
