but thats really been the right wing's MO for almost a decade. the republicans have spent exponentially more effort weaponizing their own flaws to avoid growing up than they have on learning what the actual problems are, much less fixing them.
so when its pointed out that their constituents are getting gut-hooked by deliberately false and salacious articles written by bored macedonian teenagers, clinical paranoids, and actual honest to god KGB agents, instead of educating their tribe to not glibly digest anything that backs up their world view, they simply pivot to calling anything that paints them in an awkward light 'fake'.
the only criteria for whether or not a thing is fake or real is whether or not it serves their goals.

"The whole party, it turns out, has been faking it for years. Its leaders’ rhetoric was empty; they have no idea how to turn their slogans into actual legislation, because they’ve never bothered to understand how anything important works."
thats a diamond tipped bullet into the heart of the republican agenda. they have become so wholly embroiled in propaganda warfare that they have diverted all their resources to it, resources that were once spent on actual governance.
and all these failures that we attribute to trump, are in truth just as much the responsibility of the republicans, who have been caught completely flat footed in an election they were positive they were going to lose.
"we will fix taxes." [ we have no idea how to fix taxes ]
"we will make government smaller." [ we have no idea how to run a country with a smaller government ]
"we will fix medicaid and health insurance." [ we need to pillage social security to do so and even then we are going to capitulate to big pharma ]
"we will bring jobs back to america." [ because somehow a bunch of oxy chugging christian trailer trash are going to compete with a $1 an hour international factory market ]
"we will end terrorism." [ by smothering the embers of radicalization with gasoline ]
they have absolutely no answers. and trump may well be the last jenga piece to get pulled out of the conservative tower before it implodes violently.
