"but it’s also going to depend on the degree of self-reflection inside the Republican Party,”

Hilariously, the GOP actually organized some smart people to do that self-reflection after Romney lost in 2012.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/...ry?id=18755809

"The report, called the "Growth and Opportunity Project," lays out an extensive plan the RNC believes will lead the party to victory with an extensive outreach to women, African-American, Asian, Hispanic and gay voters."

Then 3 years later they collectively decided, "naw...fuck all that. We need to do the same shit we've been doing, but more of it."

One of the authors of that report actually left the Republican Party over Trump's nomination.

Chris Christie couldn’t get his presidential race launched — it was basically over before it started — because he was too friendly and cooperative with me in accepting federal aid for a state that had been devastated by a hurricane.
    C'mon, Obama.

Even though I somewhat agree with him regarding the GOP needing to do soul searching and excise the over-purists from the party, the above statement of his is just plain ridiculous.

No, Obama, Christie didn't fail in his primary because he cooperated with you. Christie failed because he's a shady goon who purposely backed up NY/NJ traffic for 5 days in order to punish a mayor who didn't support him, and because he comes off like a fat mafioso.

He was also the first to sell out to Trump as soon as he realize his own candidacy was fucked.

The party did attempt to do some reform after the 2012 election. Even Karl Rove got on board, wanting the party to nominate candidates who were electable (mostly inspired by the 2010/2012 elections where the GOP tossed away 5 easily winnable Senate seats by nominating horrible Tea Party candidates.)

Unfortunately it was met with too much resistance and not much changed.

sonatine, they didn't "come up" with Milo. He rose on his own by basically forcing himself into the conversation, starting with the Gamergate situation.

However, the wide acceptance of Milo within the party is at least a step in the right direction. The fact that a flamboyant gay guy (who in fact refers to himself as a "dangerous idiotic" and openly brags about sleeping with black men) receives enthusiastic applause when taking the stage is indicative that the mainstream GOP is pretty much ready to include the gay community.

I actually predict gay men will be moving into the Republican column fairly soon. They are more affluent than the average straight man, and often support GOP economic policies, but have been resistant to switch political allegiance because of the general anti-gay sentiment long held by the GOP. Now that this sentiment has died down, coupled with the left's head-scratching vocal support of the Muslim community (which is rabidly anti-gay), I see the gay male demographic warming up to the GOP.

Every time a Democratic leader refuses to utter the words "radical Islam" in response to a terror attack -- especially one aimed at gays -- they will lose the gay community.

Lesbians will likely stay on the left, as they also typically have the extreme feminism thing going on, plus they are typically hostile to men (especially white men) in general, whereas the gay men are not.

If the GOP is smart, they will seize upon the opportunity to convince the black community that the Democratic Party has failed them for decades (which they have), and will cause at least some movement there, as well.

The GOP especially needs to reach out to Hispanics, and obviously Trump's candidacy has damaged that for the moment.-

Hold on Roscoe, don't be so quick to judge...

Trump lost money as per tax basis of accounting, but lost as per Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) would undoubtedly be difference and probably less severe...and who is to say that the GAAP loss wasn't according to plan agreed to by investors in Trump's activities?

if anything, the Clinton campaign blasting Trump indicates the Clinton's lack of understanding of the Tax Code, its underlying economic principles and incentives built into the system...not a good person to lead any revision/overhaul of taxation.

Really? You think the Clinton campaign doesnt understand tax code?

Please tell me more things you think. Because I'm pretty sure we are scratching the surface of a deep, dark pool of luridly entertaining stupidity if you honestly believe that.

    Because you also said
and who is to say that the GAAP loss wasn't according to plan agreed to by investors in Trump's activities
and I want to know more about how people who bought in at $37 a share and got out at seventeen fucking cents a share thought this was a solid plan.

What you probably meant to say, is that the Clinton campaign was willfully misrepresenting the situation to cast Trump glibly fucking his contractors, employees, and investors over for his own purposes in a criminal light. And you would be right.

So lets just pretend you said that. That totally works for me if you're onboard.

Also the real party is apparently about to start, because the word on the streets is that the envelope his ex-wife dox'd to the press also contains some tidbits about his campaign finances that are going to be very, very difficult for middle America to reconcile with his altruist working man messiah shtick.

And a lot of the Trump material was funny, too.

Unfortunately SNL was terrified to make fun of the Democratic candidate (they only went after her harder when Bernie was still in the race), so they softballed her part of it.

Oh, sure, they made some weak jokes about how she isn't relatable and how people don't like her, but that was just token stuff thrown in so they could claim they were "giving it to both sides".

Would love to see these skits written from the center so we could laugh at both candidates, instead of one.

Because Lord knows that the left-wing Hollywood Overlords would never forgive SNL (nor would its own actors) if this skit convinced even one voter to reverse support for Hillary.
hollywood's liberal, but this debate sketch wasn't a good example of any liberal bias. the sketch was funny because it's exactly what actually happened. hillary didn't say anything embarrassing. she just got to sit there smiling, while trump melted down. if they made just as much fun of hillary as trump here, it wouldn't have made any sense
The SNL skit was pretty much a celebration of Trump's poor debate performance, rather than a debate parody.

When they showed fake Hillary celebrating Trump doing poorly at the debate, it was like watching entire cast and writing staff of SNL celebrating it.

If the situation were reversed, zero chance they would have depicted it this way.

I've complained about this before. SNL is terrified to ever do any parodies which could actually harm the Democratic candidate. They hit the Republican with everything they've got, and then use something weak and mostly harmless to skewer the Democratic side, thus preventing any viewers from thinking too critically of the Democratic candidate.

It would be really refreshing to see a political parody sketch written from the center, rather than garbage like this where they try to appear they're giving it to both sides, but in reality its obvious they can barely contain their joy from the Republican candidate's struggles.

Darrell Hammond was the best Trump impersonator ever. Alex Baldwin was terrible.

If Trump is serious about becoming President he will need to go after the black and latino vote.

For blacks, how about not paying federal taxes ever?
What percentage of federal taxes are paid by blacks? 10%? 5%?
Do you know a single black person who actually pays federal taxes?
Trump needs to find a way to get the black vote.
    This could be it.

For latinos, Trump needs to talk about putting them back to work instead of deporting them.

All this free shit that Hillary Clinton is talking about will never happen.

Congress will never work with Hillary Clinton.

Of course, Congress probably won't work with Trump either.

    Druff,

If the gays start moving towards the GOP then they will have forgotten who stood beside them in their fight for freedom.

I would argue the relationship between the GOP and Hispanics is damaged far beyond the moment, possibly for generations.

There's a post in this thread where Druff says that in 200 years Hillary would go in the books as the first woman president and didnt feel she deserved that legacy due to her shadiness.

It made me think to Obama's legacy, after the years have passed and ISIS is a footnote, what remains? The first black president. The guy who insured every man woman and child. I'd imagine that gets looked at fondly in 200 years, they'll probably think why did it take so long? The man who led the Paris Climate Change Agreement. Imagine how that gets looked at in the future. The man who ended wars. The man who killed the man who did 9/11. The man who led the charge for equality. The man who took over after Bush and helped lead us back.

Not bad Mr. President, not bad at all.

    Change indeed.

Edit: just sunk in that Hillary's president now. Like wow this bitch better not take us into war.

I've decided to curb my internet usage a bit and quit wasting my time on politics. We got 4 years of Hillary and everybody knows it.

I haven't listened to it, it's probably brutal coming from the person who kicked us in the balls and stole the election from us. We'll see her in the primaries in 2020. I haven't watched one second of the debate and I haven't watched one second of the SNL debate skit. I guess Trump really blew it huh and what's up with these sniffles I keep hearing about. Lol if Trump cried during the debate or did he have some allergies idk.

Well this doesn't look very good at all..

the FBI apparently struck "side agreements" with both Cheryl Mills an Heather Samuelson to "destroy" their "laptops after concluding its search."
