Israel was going to kill Soleimani a few years ago but Obama warned him of the attack, essentially saving his life.
Soleimani was also responsible for defeating ISIS in Iraq and the region.

If the above is to be believed then it’s a win. Just because there may be potential repercussions doesn’t change that fact. There is also belief (spin?) that this show of force may cause Iran to ratchet things down in the region.
